Pre-opentype formats are really limitating for applications that do non-trivial text processing, and libreoffice folks did a huge amount of work lately to fix their text rendering stack.
Someone should really package tex gyre in Fedora, now that the legal issues have been solved (IIRC). That's basically the same fonts in an opentype container.
