Hey RITluggers!
We’re flying into Week 9 already, and October is almost over. Maybe
you’re planning your costume, stocking up on candy, or trying to get
your last few contributions in for Hacktoberfest
<http://ift.tt/1KLpp7G>! And this week, RITlug is here to help (with
your hacks, not your candy).
Hacktoberfest Procrasti-fest
Every year, DigitalOcean and GitHub partner up for Hacktoberfest
<http://ift.tt/1KLpp7G>. The goal? Make four contributions to any open
source project on GitHub in October. If you do it, DigitalOcean sends
you free stickers and a t-shirt to thank you for your work!
October is coming up to an end fast, and we want to help you earn your
free goodies. The meeting will be a hands-on, interactive workshop.
Bring your favorite open source projects and laptops, and we’ll help you
contribute and submit your pull request.
Don’t know of a project to work on? No worries! We have some projects
ready to show if you aren’t sure what to work on.
Our meeting starts at *4:00pm on Friday, October 20th, in GOL-2650*
(large DB lab).

Women in Open Source - Oct. 20th, 4pm
by Justin W. Flory
Hey everyone!
RITlug is having our meeting this week, and I wanted to share our topic
here on this mailing list too. As always, anyone is welcome to attend
and participate, whether you're a student, alum, or faculty. :-)
===
Last May, Red Hat and the open source community honored two exceptional
women, Avni Khatri and Jigyasa Grover for the “Women in Open Source”
award. This week, the RIT Linux User’s Group (RITlug) looks into the
history behind the role of women in open source and tech communities. We
examine the invaluable and extraordinary accomplishments of pioneering
women that changed the foundations of open source and are paving the way
for future generations of women to do the same.
Our meeting starts at 4:00pm on Friday, October 20th, in GOL-2650 (large
DB lab).

from historical elections to allow you to run your own elections. Then
hack the night away on current projects or propose new civic hacking
projects with new friends!
Pizza and other consumables will be provided. Please RSVP so we know how
much to buy.

Hacktoberfest is on!
by Justin W. Flory
Hey all,
Just a friendly reminder if you didn't know already, but DigitalOcean
and GitHub have partnered up for another year of Hacktoberfest!
https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/
The ask? Make four pull requests from October 1st - 31st, and if you do,
get a free t-shirt and stickers! If you register and make some PRs but
not all four, you'll still get free stickers. Sign in with your GitHub
account above to officially register for Hacktoberfest.
You can monitor your progress with this handy app:
https://hacktoberfestchecker.herokuapp.com/
Best of luck, and happy hacking this October!
