Dinner with Solomon after FOSS Hours today
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all! Solomon Rubin (Serubin), former RITlug president / FOSS@MAGIC
friend, is in town for a few days this week. We were thinking of going
to Han Noodle Bar after FOSS Hours (leaving RIT around 6:45pm - 7pm):

We'll have a few people with cars leaving from FOSS Hours if you need a
ride and want to come. However, since this is the final week of classes,
don't worry too much if this is too last minute to make changes to your
own plans.
Hope to see some of you tonight!

Progress update: Telegram <=> IRC <=> Slack bridge downtime
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all,
We are working to restore the Telegram and Slack bridges to IRC after an
unexpected outage last week. We expect service to be restored no later
than Sunday, Dec. 7th.
Some issues were not anticipated in RITlug's infrastructure and data was
lost. Previous configurations were not backed up. At the same time, some
bugs in the bridge software interfered with reliable up-time. We expect
fixes upstream soon¹.
On the infrastructure side, I am setting up basic automation for the
bridge software. This should make continued use more sustainable. The
work is now happening on GitHub². The delay in restoration of service is
because of this additional work for more sustainable work (also in the
weeks approaching final exams).
We apologize for the downtime of the bridges. Service will be restored
no later than Dec. 7th. You can follow progress in any of the links
mentioned prior.
Feel free to reach out to me or reply on the list if you have questions
or concerns.

[feedback wanted] devel. environment of coming-soon FOSS@MAGIC website
by Justin W. Flory
Hi all,
I'm requesting feedback on new documentation that explains how to create
a development environment of new FOSS@MAGIC website:
https://github.com/FOSSRIT/fossrit.github.io/pull/35
If you have time and can spend 10-30 minutes running through these steps
installing Docker and creating a development environment, your feedback
is valuable and helpful for me. The goal is to simplify making new
contributions to the website.
The new website is not officially launched yet, but keep an eye out for
more news and updates about this in 2019.
If you can leave feedback about the development environment setup, it is
super insightful for me. Thanks for your time!
