Does that work? The RHEL8 IdM server installation instructions
claim that forward and reverse lookup of the server have to work.
Yes it does work.
And just to clarify, the nsswitch.conf needs to be set up for this.
# cat /etc/nsswitch.conf | grep 'hosts:'
hosts: files dns myhostname
Note that it says "files" (/etc/hosts) then "dns".
# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 8.3 (Ootpa)
# cat /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6
# getent hosts 192.168.122.114
Also, I've installed IPA using the "hosts" mechanism before. So It should
