To date, we've never had any safety, hostility, or harrassment problems at
a FUDCon. Nor do I believe this would change in the near future.
However, some community conferences have had this problem:
* http://valerieaurora.wordpress.com/2010/11/08/its-not-just-noirin/
* https://lwn.net/Articles/417952/
We've been asked whether we'd consider an anti-harrassment policy for
FUDCon. Some Fedora community members have been involved in the creation
of a generic policy that is available for adaptation and use:
* http://geekfeminism.wikia.com/index.php?title=Conference_anti-
harassment_policy
I believe all planners would agree we want attendees at a FUDCon to enjoy
their time there, and that we want them to feel safe to participate and
contribute there. However, there are some pending questions about what
risks and benefits the establishment of a policy creates. For instance,
does it increase liability for organizers, or Red Hat as a sponsor? I'd
think not, but since I'm not an expert, and don't believe any of us in the
planning group are, I've reached out to find a personnel policy expert in
Red Hat who could advise us.

* I met Pierros Papadeas first time in FOSS Asia 2010 in Vietnam last
year. Although I have been a Fedora Ambassador for a few years, his active
work convinced me to involve deeper in and contribute more and more to
Fedora Project. Pierros himself introduced to me a new friend, Christoph
Wickert. Christoph then sponsored me to be a Fedora package maintainer.
And finally, my first Fedora package, ibus-unikey, a keyboard input for
Vietnamese, has been out. After a long time working with Fedora
Ambassadors EMEA friends (Pierros, Christoph, etc.), I would like to meet
them in face-to-face.
* On aprroval, this is also my first FUDCon since there is no FUDCon in
my area (APAC) up to now. I can take this opportunity to learn more from
Fedora fellows and bring those great experience back to make Fedora
activities in my country (Vietnam) as well as APAC better.
* Also, I can share our work and experience (building the FOSS
community, organizing FOSS events, etc.) to Fedora friends in EMEA and all
over the world.

Reminder of planning meeting schedule for FUDCons in Milan and Blacksburg
by Jared K. Smith
Just a friendly reminder of the FUDCon planning meeting schedules, as
we haven't had much participation in the last several meetings.
FUDCon Milan planning meetings are every Friday at 15:00 UTC. (That's
11:00am EDT for those of us in the USA who are time-zone challenged at
times.)
The planning meetings for FUDCon Blacksburg will start on July 6th,
and will be every Wednesday at 16:00 UTC (That's noon EDT.)
Please join us for upcoming planning meetings to help make both
FUDCons as successful as possible.
