Hi
I have been working on getting the games spin through release engineering and Fedora Board for approval.
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-advisory-board/2007-September/msg0008...
The new process to follow is described in
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Infrastructure/CustomSpins
I have changed the configuration file to inherit the base desktop configuration as Jeremy Katz (CC'ed) has suggested to do that before getting board approval on this spin.
I configuration the repo to point to a local copy of rawhide instead of a mirror list and get this
Pointing to the mirror list does not result in this problem. I would appreciate if anyone could test and let me know if this configuration works for you.

Good!

Hmm, when first building a test DVD based on the .ks file in the wiki I got a python backtrace too, updating everything to the latest rawhide versions (I was already on rawhide) solved this. Alternatively, did you consider that this might be cause by a partial synced mirror, thus one where the meta data and the actual packages are out of sync? Maybe a simple retry will make the problem go away?

Hans

I have tried again a few times without success but the local rawhide copy is a few days old which could be be a reason. I only have more bandwidth at office and today is a holiday locally. If this just disappears with the latest rawhide, I don't have to worry about this.

I'm not saying it will disappear, it might. Notice that I'm not talking about using rawhide as a source to compose from, but also as a platform on which the compising is happening.

Right. I am trying to build using a rawhide box with all the latest updates but the mirror I am using is about three days old. Let me know if the configuration listed in the wiki works for you.

Hi All,
Its no longer clear to me where the master copy of the .ks file is, so I'm just sending changes here. I think we need a VCS to hold the .ks file.
As a result from the discussion about autodownloader games I would like to suggest the addition of the following games to the list (traditional, small): quake3 vavoom rott-shareware
Also I've recently imported: londonlaw
Last, if we are willing to take the 50Mb hit for kdelibs (we already have qt and arts due to some dep issues I'm working on resolving) these would be good to have too: taxipilot ksirk
Also I just got freecol approved, I'll build it as soon as its CVS creation is done: freecol
Last I would like to see bolzplatz2006 included (fun comic style 3d football game), can someone help reviewing it? : https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=283721
Thanks & Regards,
Hans

poker2d-kde can be added also if kdelibs is added, it should only be a few extra kilobytes.
I would be saddened if gimp is added and kde games are not. :(

Note that inheriting a configuration does not mean that you are struck with the package set. If there is strong notions on dropping some packages, you can still remove packages after inheriting them from existing kickstart files.
-<packagename>
That's it.

Okay, I've added a kde based games section to the .ks file and populated it with: ksirk taxipilot poker2d-kde

So, some suggestions after looking at what you've got now * Using base-desktop vs desktop -- while base-desktop is good for KDE or XFCE, it probably makes more sense for something like the games spin to be based on the main desktop config * Then, the %packages section boils down to really just the games you're adding on top * Given the size you're already going to be at, I don't think that removing printing, evolution and the gimp helps that much... you might as well include them and then it's a fully functional desktop + the set of games. The delta is going to be on the order of maybe 50 megs. * The %post section will then just get inherited from the desktop config and not need replication of things like the avahi hack

I thought this was fixed up in rawhide yum -- basically, you're hitting an error and in the error teardown path, there's a yum bug. But that should be fixed in yum 3.2.5-3 or later. Unless I didn't backport the full fix from yum.git.
Anyway, kicked off an image with your config just to see what happens, but I have to catch the bus in ~ 15 minutes and I suspect it won't be done by then. I'll try to check on it when I get home, though.

I thought about that before too. You are right. I have done that change now.

Mostly worked -- needed to add a larger rootfs. I've updated the config on the wiki appropriately.
