Hey guys! My name is Suhaas. I am in the first year of my undergrad. I will be applying to Fedora Project under GSOC 2021. I am interested in Game SIG, since the mission aligns with what I personally would love to have in Fedora. I would like to start contributing.
I am proficient in C++ and linear and tree data structures. I have Fedora Workstation installed. If it's relevant, I know supervised Machine Learning and Python in theory (but lack substantial practice in them).
My timezone is Indian Standard Time(IST). I can work upto 14 hours most weeks. Could someone please guide me on how to proceed?
Thanks Suhaas

Hi Suhaas! As you can see, the Fedora Games SIG isn't currently highly active. That sometimes happens as people in different parts of the project get busy or interests change. Lots of people care about gaming on Fedora, though, and perhaps coincidentally I just saw such a post on Ask Fedora:
https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/learning-fedora-linux-through-gaming/11702?u...
Perhaps you and Andrew and others who are interested could connect up and get this moving again?
Hey Matthew! I will help out with the blog posts. It seems like a great idea. Will let Andrew know to sign me up. At the same time though, I would also like to have some programming work to do, so that I get familiar with the codebase, find mentor(s) and apply to GSOC with a greater chance of making it in. Are there any coding jobs or bug fixes I can help with? And could you refer me to a potential mentor for GSOC?
Thanks Suhaas

I apprecate the eagerness! We're just in the process of gathering projects and mentors, so we don't have anything yet. You can watch _proposed_ projects as they come in here: https://pagure.io/mentored-projects/issues?tags=GSoC&status=Open
Not all of these will be accepted, though.
Sorry for the late reply. I missed this thread. Thanks for the link! I will keep an eye on it. In the meantime, I will try helping around with the "Revive Games SIG" discussion. If any programming work pops up, please let me know! :)

So, this isn't games related, but here's a thing which might be of interest: we need search for our docs and do not have a good solution.

Can someone add Commander Genius? It would be a nice addition to the Fedora Project and enrich its 2D platform gaming experience. Just saying, since there are many playable mods out there similar to the Doom gaming culture. Just saying... :-)

Is this game playable with content we can redistribute?

Actually it works the same way as with ScummVM. You have to add the games to a directory. If there are no games, you get a menu where you can add some.
Within that menu there also exists a downloader which can automatically download them for you, but you can easily build CG (cmake -DDOWNLOADER=0) without the downloader if that is a problem.
