I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature request (not being overly
familiar with the requirements). I would expect hyperkitty to be tracking
read/unread for (at least) threads to help me keep track of where I am.

GSoC 15 - RSS feeds and plaintext downloads for Hyperkitty
by David Udelson
This is a copy of an email I sent to mailman-developers yesterday. I hope
the copy-paste is acceptable. I should have sent this email to this mailing
list in the first place but I was not aware it existed until today.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
My name is David Udelson. I am a freshman Computer Science
undergraduate at Cornell University. I have 3 years of experience with
python under my belt, but I've never contributed to an open source project
because I've never known where to begin. I'm hoping GSoC will provide me
with that starting point, as well as an opportunity to make some meaningful
contributions to the open source community.
I'm interested in contributing to the Hyperkitty archiver. Specifically, it
looks like some requested features for Hyperkitty include rss syndication
for entire mailing lists/specific users/specific threads, and the ability
to view entire threads as plaintext and download that plaintext. I have the
following questions regarding these features:
1) Are these features definitely expected to be in future releases, or are
they just "nice-to-haves"? If there are more important/pressing issues that
the Hyperkitty devs think I could implement instead, I would prefer to work
on those. This page <http://wiki.list.org/DEV/Mailman%203.0> suggests that
there might be other things to sort out between Hyperkitty and mailman core
before the 3.0 release, but I could not find anything specific.
2) Are both of these features implementable within the GSoC timeline, or
should I only pursue one of them?
I'm very sorry this email is so late in the application process. I stumbled
across GSoC rather late, but I am very interested in submitting a
meaningful proposal, so if any developers want to help me hash out my ideas
over the next 2 or 3 days, I would greatly appreciate that!
Thanks,
David
