For now, I'm just using the "emacs*useXIM: off" Xresource to work around the problem. It doesn't happen frequently, but I can get /usr/bin/xterm to freeze in the same way. I suspect it's also a race condition with SCIM. Is there any easy way to disable SCIM support in xterm? Yeah one would hope so, but recently when I groupinstall kde-desktop and try it out it just sits there staring at me after startup, I suppose I could file a bug if it is not known...
