While testing the i18n QA test case 'Font Configuration Tool' for Assamese language, I found that when fc-match command is run from terminal, it displays Lohit-Assamese only for Sans-serif and displays Lohit-Bengali instead of Lohit-Assamese for Serif and Monospace. The result displayed in terminal is as follows:
[ngoswami@localhost ~]$ fc-match sans-serif:lang=as Lohit-Assamese.ttf: "Lohit Assamese" "Regular" [ngoswami@localhost ~]$ fc-match serif:lang=as Lohit-Bengali.ttf: "Lohit Bengali" "Regular" [ngoswami@localhost ~]$ fc-match monospace:lang=as Lohit-Bengali.ttf: "Lohit Bengali" "Regular"

--- Comment #1 from Akira TAGOH tagoh@redhat.com --- Please clarify what you changed at the above step 2. if you did change sans-serif, serif and monospace all together to Lohit Assamese and fc-match claims as you said, it should be a bug in fonts-tweak-tool. if you are just complaining the default font is weird otherwise, please say so. in that case the above report is totally misleading.

--- Comment #2 from Nilamdyuti ngoswami@redhat.com --- Hi Akira,
No, I changed only sans-serif to Lohit-Assamese because for serif and monospace, Lohit-Assamese wasn't there as an option in the drop down lists. So, it doesn't seem to be a bug in fonts-tweak-tool. There seems to be some other issue because for Lohit-Bengali it displays Lohit-Bengali when fc-match command is run for all the three cases and Lohit-Bengali is also not available in drop down lists of serif and monospace.

--- Comment #3 from Pravin Satpute psatpute@redhat.com --- Adding Lohit Assamese from fonts-tweak-tool OR without adding gives us same results :)
Lohit-Assamese and whole lohit family only provides Sans-serif fonts.
From Monospace definitely Lohit should get selected. If no objection, i am
thinking to add rules in Lohit conf file saying it provides monospace as well.
For Serif i am bit doubtful. Since we do have some fonts for some languages providing serif. But even in that case if serif fonts not available Lohit should get selected.

Hi Akira,
No, I changed only sans-serif to Lohit-Assamese because for serif and monospace, Lohit-Assamese wasn't there as an option in the drop down lists.
FWIW that is a feature in fonts-tweak-tool. you can disable it by turning on `Do not filter a font family name by classification' option.

--- Comment #5 from Pravin Satpute psatpute@redhat.com --- Yes, after enabling 'Do not filter a font family name by classification' and selecting Lohit Assamese for all style works fine.

--- Comment #6 from Nilamdyuti ngoswami@redhat.com --- Yes, after enabling 'Do not filter a font family name by classification' and selecting Lohit Assamese for all style, displays Lohit Assamese for all the cases when fc-command is run.
