by morpheus
When inserting Japanese into a document in any OpenOffice application, if you try to insert a "symbol" (i.e. press Home, then enter then enter again) every running KDE app immediately crashes. Yes, every K app on the system crashes at the same time.
Details:
openoffice 1.1.3
kernel 2.6.9-1.667
KDE 3.3.1-1
iiim 12.1.10
Canna 3.7p3-6
All installed from binary packages.

What exactly are you trying to do? Do you need a C function for a program you are writing? If you're using PHP, there's a function built-in:
http://nz.php.net/manual/en/function.mb-convert-encoding.php

[Fedora-i18n-list] Kanji recognition
by Digimer
Hi all,
This is my first post so I appologize up front if I fail to follow a
rule (written or otherwise ;) ).
I have recently started using Japanese input in my programs under
Fedora Core 3 with growing success. What I am looking for now, and I
hope this isn't off topic for this list, is a tool like my roommate has
on her WinXP machine where I can free-draw a kanji character and the
program tries to match it and provide a list of options (and if I am
really lucky has the pronunciation and meaning).
As an aside, I have also been trying to find a way to make Japanese
the default input method in iiimf. Gimlet currently defaults to English
but seeing as I can toggle between kana/kanji and romanji with
<ctrl>+<space> I'd rather leave it as Japanese.
Thanks and I look forward to getting to know people here!
Madison

[Fedora-i18n-list] Cannot display Chinese characters which are not Japanese characters
by Clotho Tsang
My Fedora 3 can display some but NOT all Chinese characters.
The Chinese characters common with Japanese-chinese (eg. "我")
can be displayed correctly, but uncommon one like (eg. "檔")
will become a block with its coding.
Setting locate to "zh_TW.UTF-8" or "en_US.UTF-8" cannot help.
I have tried to changed the fonts, but there is no difference
for all the fonts.
Thank you for help.
