FUDCon India 2008
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
We have the tentative budget approval to organize a FUDCon in India as
part of the foss.in conference in Bangalore. Since last few FUDCon's
have been successfully conducted in Barcamp style, we might follow it if
we have the infrastructure and approval from event organizers. I have
add some preliminary details to
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FUDCon/FUDConIndia2008
Let me know if you have any questions.

[Fwd: Mirror bandwidth and user redirection]
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
You should from now on get automatically redirected to the mirror with
more bandwidth. I talked to Matt Domsch in Boston about this last week
and it's already implemented now.

I think this thread should stop here without any further discussions.

Hi Kulbir,
The permission you received is all you need. You may use the Fedora
logo on your site. However, if could correct the site notice as
follows:
"Fedora, the Fedora logo, Fedora Project and Red Hat are trademarks of
Red Hat, Inc. The Fedora logo is used by permission."
1. Correct "the Fedora logo" so that "logo" is not capitalized
2. Correct "Fedora Project" to be two words, not one
3. Add the final sentence, "The Fedora logo is used by permission."
This is satisfactory and you can continue using the logo on your site.
We are working on writing clearer trademark guidelines to make usage
like this easier.

Maintaining the Fedora developer spin
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
Andrew Overholt from the Red Hat Java team initiated a effort to create
a Fedora developer spin (live DVD) for Fedora 8. Unfortunately he hasn't
had time to continue to maintain it.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/8/ReleaseSummary
In brief, a spin is a custom variant of Fedora targeted at more specific
audience and can be either regular installation or live images. Refer
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/CustomSpins
In this case, what is minimum required for you to maintain a spin is
basic understanding of the kickstart syntax and livecd-creator, both of
which are pretty easy to learn. I can help walk you through the process
if you are interested. Do let me know if this interests you. Thanks.

Clarifications regarding fedora.co.in
by Kulbir Saini
Hi all!
I own this domain (http://fedora.co.in/) since almost 3-4 months and use it
to blog about Fedora and Linux related things. I took permission for using
Fedora logo from FedoraProject (http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Logo). I am
not a RedHat employee and footer in the website says the same. I have
changed the website name to "My Fedora". If anybody still have any problem
and think that I am defaming FedoraProject or hurting anyone's sentiments,
reply to this thread.
PS : I am not going to move my blog to any other domain.

You cleared nothing. You are trying to circumvent the issue.

Change the url from fedora.co.in to something else.

Here is what you wrote:
"Copyright (c) 2008 Kulbir Saini. I am not related to Red Hat or
Fedora Project. The content on this site is my own views. "
If you were not a related to the Fedora project, there is no way you
could have that site on Planet Fedora.
> and being a GSoCer doesn't make you an employee.
Not an employee of Red Hat, but that does make you part of the Fedora
Project since you are being mentored and selected under it, and
technically you are "working for Google as a self-employed contract
worker" (Leslie Hawthorne will give you the exact phrase).

Is there something left to seriously wonder about?

Don't know about other countries but *yes* we have problems if someone
is using the name 'Fedora India'. 'Fedora India' means the whole
Fedora community from India, You just can not use that name for your
personal statements.
And you are using Fedora logo and telling there is no legal problem!!
Also please mail in this regard in the list as this is not a personal
conversation.
