Infy, TCS lock horns with Red Hat over IT patent

We can end with a bad patent mess in India otherwise. http://www.financialexpress.com/news/Infy-TCS-lock-horns-with-Red-Hat-over-… "Pinaki Ghosh, the intellectual property head of Infosys, told FE, “We are of the opinion that software systems as well methods should be patented.” Companies like Infosys want software patents along the entire software value chain from source code to software embedded in hardware. However, patenting of software is being opposed strongly by Red Hat India, the Linux based open source software company, along with science forums like the All India Peoples Science Network. Venkatesh Hariharan, who heads Red Hat India’s open source affairs, said the draft patent manual that seeks to introduce patents is not in consonance with the current legal situation. Hariharan pointed out that Section 3(K) of the Patent Act clearly says that a mathematical or business method or computer programmes per se, or algorithms, are not patentable." Rahul

I recall that the Linux-Manipur group keeps on organizing regular events. Would it be possible for you to check up with them ? The reason I suggest this is that it would lead to a coupling of forces and provide you with the existing contacts to organize a Fedora 10 release party perhaps. A release party is generally a whole lot of fun since you get to meet new people, help each other resolve niggling issues while installation and configuration and have a great time within the group. These days a large number of the 'computer' magazines (and especially Linux For You) carry the operating system on the DVDs they ship. If obtaining them is an issue, it would be good to designate yourself and a few others as points of contact for your college and receive the first set of media which you can use to make DVDs for those who request. Like I stated above, most of the 'unfriendly' bits are generated via perception. Demonstrating that usage of Linux and Open Source Software isn't taking a leap of faith would be a good start. The NIT-Hamirpur folks have done it, as have the Durgapur LUG team. Skype on Fedora 9

Hi All, Has anyone had success configuring and running Skype 2.0 on Fedora 9? For the life of me I couldn't get the microphone to work at all. Tried all sorts of stunts with PulseAudio settings et al, but no luck. I've tried the usual google links that show up when you search for fedora 9 skype. Warm Regards, Ritesh

Fedora boot problem

Dear all, I was using fedora 8. I downloaded fedora 9 and inserted the DVD. It asked for an upgrade and every thing was fine. Now after an automatic update( I think the kernel should have been updated) when i reboot the system, it is not booting. A beep sound is heard after displaying GRUB.
