[Ambassadors] Event announcement
by Ankur Sinha
hi,
This email is to announce the LUGM OpenWeek that we propose to hold from
the 1st to 7th of march this year. It will be the 1st event of Q1.
Please refer https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/LUGMopenweek
for more details. The Links there will guide direct you to the wiki
page. All comments are welcome.
The event as mentioned on our wiki is aimed at increasing the Linux user
base more on a local basis (in college and other colleges around). Once
this is done we will move onto workshops to help people contribute to
the project.
We are still a very young LUG. All help is appreciated in advance.
regards,
Ankur

Bad News from NIT Durgapur :(
by Debayan Banerjee
There was a talk scheduled for tomorrow (January 22) at NIT Durgapur titled
"Contribute to Fedora". There is a bandh called tomorrow called by CPM in
Bengal and our college will remain closed tomorrow, hence no classrooms/labs
will be available.
We have to cancel the talk. Kindly remember to add it to the 4 hour session
during Mukti on 7th February.
Sorry about this, there is nothing to be done about it really.

by garima garg
Hi, I am *Garima Garg*, an under-graduate student in *Jaypee Institute of
Information Technology University, Noida*, India. Currently, I am a member
of the *JIITU-LUG*(Linux User Group of our college) .
I attended the workshop on Linux in December'08 held in our college,
organized by IEEE and and since then, Linux(especially Fedora) has become
one of my most essential computing requirements.
I will be more than happy to work for an open source community.

Organizing FAD in Varanasi (IT-BHU)
by Dhushyanth R
Hi all,
Just wanted to ask your opinion on the stated subject. It would be a
really nice exposure to us students in IT-BHU. I mean this will take
Fedora to the grass roots- to the future fedora developers. I am
myself a newbie and would love to see Fedora in action. Also we have a
Technical Festival slated for february 19-22nd. Will any of the
developers or evangelists be will to come in here for that
purpose(talks, etc). I mean it does sound sort cliche'd but I think it
will all be for the good.
Even if the date is changed to something more convenient for all of
you (i.e to say not in the tech-fest), even then i am sure it will at
least make more open source contributors out of us( i mean the student
community here).
Regards
R Dhushyanth
p.s- also working on getting a student representative on board the
fedora ambassador from most of the colleges that I know. Hope this
helps in getting an all round opinion from the student community.

Assembling all the available tasks and find people for them.
by susmit shannigrahi
Hi,
As a community, we are doing real bad when it comes to mentoring new
people and getting them into the loop.
The problem, seems to be inability to identify the works available/
areas of interest for new people.
Lets do two things
1. Let's put the available tasks (that need to be worked on) at some place.
We can give some portion of our job to youngsters whom we can mentor.
For example, I am going to give this job to anyone interested, and
mentor him/her
JOB: Make the freemedia form[1] consistent to the rest of site/wiki.
WORK TYPE: Web Development/ CSS/ html
Hopefully, this will enable him/her to know the proper irc channels,
mailing lists,
wiki pages and other available tools.
2. Lets take weekly report on the assigned task.
Once we properly mentor people, they will be able to identify the
tasks and work on it.

Regards,
Susmit.

Fedora Activity Day at GNUnify 2009, Pune
by sankarshan
>From <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD>
The Fedora Activity Day (FAD) is a regional event (either one-day or a
multi-day) that allows Fedora contributors to gather together in order
to work on specific tasks related to the Fedora Project.
Rakesh Pandit, Rahul Sundaram, Ramakrishna et al are proposing a FAD
at GNUnify 2009. Susmit has agreed to update the page at
<https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FAD/FADIndiaQ409> with details of the
FAD at Mukti09, Durgapur (after coordinating with Arindam and
Subhodip)
At GNUnify, the FAD aims to include quick introductions to The Fedora
Project (and, perhaps a bit on the upcoming GSoC), Spins and Spin
Workshop, Packaging (including Font Packaging), hands-on sessions with
testing various applications/tools like PackageKit, Genome, Gach etc.
along with a bit of desktop testing.
If you have a session/talk to propose for the FAD, please do so.
The idea is simple (as usual) - demonstrate Fedora coolness and
generate participant buzz.
If you want to catch hold of the fine folks head on to #fedora-india
(on irc.freenode) and catch hold of mether, chacha_chaudhry, ramkrsna.
It is going to be a great meetup. So, do make time to hang around with
them on irc and at the FAD.
