"i18n through gettext" Online Workshop : 30th Apr 2010, 6:00 PM IST
by Naveen Kumar
Hi,
I am going to run a workshop on "internationalization through gettext" via #fedora-india IRC channel in freenode, coming Friday. You should have a recent Fedora system running with root privileges and make sure to install emacs & fonts for your language before coming.
# yum install emacs
#yum install lohit-hindi-fonts
#yum install lohit-devanagari-fonts
Reading material at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/A_Short_Tutorial_On_i18n_Through_gettext
I will be covering the basics of internationalizing your application through gettext library and you can
follow along and i18nize & translate a "hello" project. I can continue the session for a couple of hours or until everyone can internationalize, localize & see their application running in local language. My nick is nkumar on #fedora-india, if you have any questions about getting started.

rktime: timezone utility
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
rktime is a command-line utility which displays the time in multiple
timezones in an easy-to-read way, using color to help indicate which
locations are currently in business hours.

SRPM already available. Someone just has to submit it for review. Will
be low maintenance work.

Ouch - don't throw out the baby with the bathwater :-)
The above command will get rid of all your gnome customizations. (and
also, it is almost always a good idea to do mv instead of rm -rf )
For the network manager applet, you may have done two things:
1. (More likely) - you have removed the notification area applet from
the GNOME panel. To add it, right click on panel -> Select "Add to
Panel" -> Choose "Notification Area"
2. If the above does not work, you may have really managed to get rid
of the applet from the panel - from the command line (GNOME
Terminal), run the command nm-applet. If that works, from the Main
Menu -> System -> Preferences -> Startup Applications, add the command
nm-applet (or you can also enable "Network Manager" if it appears in
the list of Startup Applications)
As for the sound applet, from the Main Menu -> System -> Preferences
-> Startup Applications, add the command gnome-volume-control-applet
(or you can also enable "GNOME Volume Control" if it appears in the
list of Startup Applications)
Thanks,
Sayamindu
