List of volunteers on website
by अभिजित Abhijit
Suchakra/Satya,
Would it be possible for you to put up the list of all volunteers on the
fudcon.in website? All the student volunteers would really love to see
their names on the website.
Thanks,
Abhijit

FUDCON: rescheduling
by अभिजित Abhijit
Dear Rahul and all concerned,
Here are few suggestions regarding the re-scheduling of events: (w.r.t.
http://fudcon.in/program/fudcon_schedule)
* It would be good to AVOID hackfests in the Auditorium. It is just too big
a place to handle a hands-on event. Let us schedule them in the class
rooms.
* We have 6 class rooms. If that is more than necessary, we can give back
some rooms to the departments.
* The schedule looks very tightly packed with sessions one after another.
If we have more facilities, then for a 1 Hour talk, let us consider a half
an hour break in between for the audience and the speaker to interact with
each other.
* Some of the more popular/important technical talks can have 2 sessions on
2 days. Some of the hackfests can also get repeated.
* We can use one class room as a permanent technical support place where
anyone can go and get technical help.
In addition,
IMPORTANT for us:
The lunch time should be 12 noon to 1 pm. The current time of 1pm - 2 pm
does not match the students' mess timings.

Fwd: [PLUG] Interview of Linus Torvalds; He Also Speaks Of Sad Situation Of India

Situation Of India

India" <linuxers(a)mm.ilug-bom.org.in>, plug-mail(a)plug.org.in
India is kind of somewhat a sad situation. Compared to the amount of
educated people, I think India is fairly low on the list compared to
what it could be. Culturally it should be fairly easy, because
language barriers should not be there. If you are educated in India,
you know English even if it is not your first language. So India
actually should have an easier time being involved in some of the
discussions. Don't get me wrong, there are developers, but just not as
many as I would expect. And I don't know quite why.
There is a fair amount of really enthusiastic local LUGs and I get to
hear about them. But, at the same time I don't know India, you know
much better. My gut feeling is that a lot of the actual professional
developers in India see software development as a job and not as a
hobby. That's the kind of picture I've gotten, I don't know if it's
true. If you see it [software development] as a job and not as a hobby
the whole open source thing is not as natural anymore.

Many questions on the preparation
by अभिजित Abhijit
Hello,
This is for me to get an update on the status of various things, so that I
can ask the college volunteers to plan accordingly. Some of you might
already have discussed these, but please help me on this.
* At what time will the catering person and his team visit the College ?
His contact details please. I need to introduce him to the Auditorium
staff.
* I have come to know that the consignment of goodies will come today at 3
pm. Just confirming the same from our side. Bring all that to my office
please (Third floor, Electronics extension - new - building, Opposite
INstrumentation Dept, Boat Club side, CoEP)
* We are supposed to set up the Wi-Fi and test it on Thursday. Guess
Shreyank is the incharge. Inform me when you are coming. We have 8 wi-fi
access points from our side. Hope the rest have been arranged. We will need
the details of those access points (network name, passwords) for inclusion
in the hand out to be given to the participants.
* We should be doing the setup of Electrical connections (long-length
extension boards and stripes) on Thursday evening (when the classes get
over). Who is to be contacted for that? Hope the planning for all the
extension boards ans stripes has been done.
* Is Murthy coming on one of the 3 days ?
* Yogesh Chavan told me that he is bringing the posters today at 3 pm. When
do we get the banners? Please give me the contact of the banner-printer for
coordination of putting up the big banner.
* For the time table team: Are we not going to use all the class rooms? If
not, then can we give back some of the class rooms ?
* Are we ready with the a) badges b) Food coupons for the volunteers ?
* Reminders for Murthy: Whiteboard markers, dusters. Battery cells for
the mikes - 9V Duracell, Pencil Cells.
* Few updates: We are getting the lounge on all 3 days (the half day
non-availability issue is solved). The Balconies near the Audiotorium have
been cleaned up of the bamboo rubble.

FUDCon Pune 2011 - Get set go!
by Saleem Ansari
We have received few requests to make changes to the earlier schedule.
Schedule was so jam packed that we could hardly make any more changes
however we still have done it all.
Here are some highlights:
* Schedule is finalized.
* Hackfests are happening on 6th of November, 2011 - all day.
* We have two classrooms spare for people to adhoc sessions, talks,
share ideas or interact with the media.
* We have stalls by Diaspora and Chamba community
Have a look at the sessions, their votes, Hackfests and the latest schedule.

Fwd: FUDCON: Handouts to the participants

Redirecting to the mailing list.
Since the booklet has already gone for printing, we can give this away as a
simple A4 paper printout.

Dear All,
This might already have been planned, I just want to add my bits to it. I'm
not sure if you have planned to print the Booklet [1], but in case yes,
then these points can as well be included there. We should give one handout
(photocopies on A4 papers) to each participant with information about the
conference. following points (and more as you find fit) should be included
on it.
* Map with all locations INSIDE campus - classrooms, washrooms, auditorium,
helpdesks
* Wifi access points - network names and passwords
* List of talks planned (Although it is available online, let us keep in
mind that many students will not have internet access round the clock)
* Information about the local Fedora mirror
* Food options (??)
Lets finalise the points first and then we'll make the document. May be we
can just start editing an online document for that.
