Ask Fedora - Feature wishlist
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
As you might already be aware, I have been working on setting up Ask
Fedora, a question and answer based forum based on http://askbot.org.
Askbot uses the Django framework written in Python. To better integrate
with Fedora and enhance the capabilities further, we have been working
on adding some features upstream and some of them have already been
merged upstream. If you are interested in helping out, refer to
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Askbot#Feature_wishlist

Scheduled: FAD, COEP, Pune, Saturday, September 10, 2011
by Shakthi Kannan
Hi,
A Fedora Activity Day (FAD) [1] is scheduled for Saturday, September
10, 2011, 1000 IST onwards at College of Engineering, Pune [2]. The
objective of this FAD is to get any beginner, particularly students,
involved in Fedora ahead of FUDCon, Pune [3]. Entry is free.
Please add your name to the wiki [1] if you intend to participate in
the event. You are encouraged to bring your laptops. COEP will provide
Wi-fi Internet access, and we will also try to have a Fedora lab and
mirror setup. There will be a series of talks (as required) and
hands-on sessions.
In addition to the sessions listed in the wiki, if you would like any
specific topic to be addressed, please let us know. For any other
queries, feel free to contact Rahul Sundaram or me.
Regards,
SK

[Event Report] GNU Make: FISAT, Angamaly, Kerala
by Shakthi Kannan
Hi,
I had presented an introduction to GNU Make, "Dum Ka Biryani, Make for
each other" [1] at "ICE-FOSS 2011" [2], August 26-27, 2011 at Federal
Institute of Science and Technology [3], Angamaly, Kerala.
The conference had talks, hands-on workshops, and project demos. There
were interesting projects displayed at the stalls by the students
varying from Arduino-based hardware projects, to Python mobile
application development to games, and applications developed using
opencv. Pamphlets were made for each project, and given to the
visitors at the stall. I reviewed the projects that were demoed and
gave them feedback. The Institute is in the process of migrating their
servers, so we should (hopefully) see the sources made available
online.
I also had a chance to meet Anvar K Sadath, Executive Director at the
IT@School [4] project. They have trained nearly 2 lakh teachers on
F/OSS over the years. Their new initiative is animation training [5]
using free/open source software.
The Institute does have a cluster setup called "Dakshina" [6] which is
used by students, and the faculty. They also do allow other nearby
colleges to use the facility on request.
I would like to thank the Management of FISAT, for sponsoring my
travel and for the wonderful hospitality. Photos taken during the trip
are available at my /gallery [7].

Upgrade to Fedora-15 failed - I am in trouble please help.
by Kamalendu Chakrabarty
I was trying to upgrade from fedora-14 to fedora-15 online
I was so confident with fedora that I didnot maintain any backup.
Everything had gone well with command preipgrade
At the last stage the procees stopped as "A fatal error ..... gnome ...."
exctly I cannot remember.
Now after rebooting I find three options at bootloader.
1. UPGRADE TO FEDORA 15 (LOVESTOCK)
2. FEDORA (2.6.35.13-92-FC14.I386)
3. FEDORA (2.6.35.6-45-FC14.I386)
None of the options are opening.
While I try with option – 1
I am asked for ^D (Control D)
Then I am asked for root password.
Then it opens on text mode like root@localhost.
Now what I have to do? I am in trouble – all my files would be lost.

Fedora India website
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
I would like to launch http://in.fedoracommunity.org/ as a community
website for FOSS event announcements, FAD, FUDCon and other efforts
within the Fedora India community. Perhaps even a store to distribute
Fedora goodies if we get permission from the Fedora Board. Anyone wants
to volunteer to help out? http://fedoracommunity.org has other sites
you can look at for ideas.
