Hi list, My name is Jitesh. I have been a long time Fedora User (I've seen it go from "Fedora Core" to "Fedora" ;-) ) and now I'd like to be a package maintainer (and hopefully pick up packages I care about along the way).
I did my undergrad in PICT, Pune and right now I am pursuing an MS. I have worked a couple of years from 2008-2010 at Marvell India Pvt. Ltd. I did some initial Fedora-ARM work while at Marvell, so I have some limited exposure to the Fedora development protocols. I can write spec files and I can work with koji, etc etc. After almost a year-long hiatus, I finally have enough spare time to start getting involved in Fedora. I am not a maintainer yet, so I thought I should start with filing a review request (Is this still how it is done? File a review request, get a sponsor?).
Theoretically I could pick up a package from here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Package_maintainers_wishlist
but, I just wanted to ask the list if there is any specific package someone has in mind that is "good to have". Anyone? I might also need some hand holding for the first review request.
Good to be back! Jitesh

You might want to help the Fedora ARM efforts (building, packaging, and maintaining them):

Yes, thats the eventual plan. But I've seen that maintainership "unlocks" many perks (I can join SIGs, etc etc). So, I thought lets make that the starting point.

Welcome back. I think it is best if we follow the co-maintainership path
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_get_sponsored_into_the_packager_group#B...
Here is how it works:
* I will file a request with FESCo (Fedora Engineering Steering Committee) to get you sponsored if you agree to accept me as a mentor * I will add you as a co-maintainer to one of the packages I maintain in Fedora (in this case, deja-dup, a backup software that is default for Fedora) * You can prep the update for https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713402. Feel free to ask any questions or offlist or IRC (my nick is mether in #fedora-india) as necessary * I will review the changes and you can commit them * Once you learn enough to be comfortable with the process, you can go ahead and file review requests for anything else you would like to maintain and I will be happy to suggest more
Let me know what you think

Sounds awesome. I am on it!

Alright. Let's get started then. What is your Fedora account system name? Do you have a user profile page in the wiki? If not, you want might want to create these first and let me know
FAS username : jiteshs I had a very very old profile page, I've erased it for now and I'll keep it updated. Here is the link: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Jiteshs

I have filed a request at
https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/616
Apply to be a co-maintainer at
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/acls/name/deja-dup (you have to login first)
Meanwhile, take a look at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=713402
See if you can prep a spec file patch to update it to the newer version. You will be committing it yourself after we review the patch. If you have questions, feel free to ask. Note that this change is only for Rawhide.
