Proposing Fedora User Meet - Bangalore - 31 May 2014

Hi,

As suggested earlier to have regular Fedora User Meets on the last
Saturday of every month, I propose to have one on the last Saturday of May.

Date: Saturday, 31 May 2014

Time: 10:00 to 13:00

Venue:

Please provide your comments on the proposal.

If the date and venue is fine with most folks, we could move ahead to
setting an agenda, and spreading the word about the meet.

Let's make it kind of an activity day and get things done. I propose
the following:
1. Rejy can take a session on SELinux
2. We fix as many bugs as possible from http://fedoraproject.org/easyfix/
3. If time permits, we can package some RPMs too.

Does it sound good?

We can have this for the meeting in June. We could have more time to
spread the word about it, so that interested folks can plan to attend
the session.

Basics about RPM packaging could be a good topic to discuss, and we
could have hands-on in packaging as well. Anyone to volunteer for this ?

I'm sorry I'm in Kolkata until July end and won't be able to make it for
this round - it's an expensive plane ticket :)

I'd have suggested that it is better to create a routine (meeting on
every 4th saturday of the month) than seek flexibility. It is somewhat
given that there will be a small set of meetings where everyone who
desired to participate are in the city or, are available to
participate. On the other hand, a published schedule might work to be
more of an advantage because "the Fedora folks in BLR meet <here>
every 4th Saturday" is something interested newbies and old-hands can
work into their schedule.

A regular schedule has been set up for the Bangalore meeting of Fedora
Users - At the Red Hat Bangalore office, the last Saturday of every
month, 10:00 to 13:00.

The challenge we face is in getting this message across to the folks who
may be interested to attend.

That is true. It is indeed a long road. I would also like to point out
that the last week of September will have a number of Python/Fedora
participants at BLR (PyCon India at NIMHANS). It should be a good time
to pull together a more ambitious agenda.

There are a few people like me who are not in Bangalore but would like
to get involved in some way. May be we can have sessions on
fedora-classroom or fedora-india on certain topics periodically. This
may help us in getting attention of those people who otherwise cannot
be present for the event physically.

Please consider sending a post to the fedora marketing list. They'll
send it out on the fedora magazine and other channels. Hopefully,
that'll get more people in the loop.

Other channels where you should announce:
- twitter
- facebook community page
- g+ community page

The mktg group can probably handle all of these :)
