Greetings!
This Saturday, September 19, 2009 is Software Freedom Day. On this day there are couple of activities planned from my side in Hyderabad.
1. Visit to Devnar Foundation for the Blind.
This is a follow-up session, to help them with Orca, and maybe install more systems in the labs.
Their address is:
Devnar School for the Blind 1-10-122 to 125, Mayurmarg, Begumpet, Hyderabad 500016 Andhra Pradesh, India Phone: +91-40-27767931, 66175696
Please don't follow Google maps, as it is incorrectly marked. Mayurimarg is the road next to Mayuri distributors in Begumpet.
* Please try Orca on your system, before you come to the venue. You could bring print-outs of Orca short-cuts, Gnome short-cuts, which we could translate into Braille for them.
* We can also add similar short-cuts from their existing proprietary system to Orca.
2. Post lunch, around 1430 IST, we would go to Department of Astronomy, Osmania University to deploy Fedora offline repository.
If you are interested to participate in either, please contact me offline (not to the lists!), so we can coordinate the same. You can also get the Fedora offline repository (Fedora 11 - 29 GB, Fedora 10 - 24 GB), and Fedora 11 DVDs, from me during this time.
Regards,
SK
Hi,
On September 19, 2009, Software Freedom Day at Hyderabad:

* Most of their systems have been donated. So, there are different motherboards, and brands. Apparently, the local AMC support guy who had come today didn't have drivers for different proprietary OSes, and for different motherboards. I then migrated their office computers to Fedora 11 :)
Now, they have HCL, Wipro computers running Fedora.
* I have disabled many start-p services, to boot the systems faster.
* I also adjusted Orca pitch, rate settings for clarity. It should take them some time to get accustomed to the American accent.

* Thanks to Prof. Haasan, I have deployed Fedora 11 repository (29 GB) at one of the department systems.
* They are interested in creating a Fedora Spin for Astronomy, and release it, as this is the International Year of Astronomy [1]. I have provided Rahul Sundarams' e-mail contact to them.
