I was planning to get one and hence the pre-purchase check.
Hello sankarshan,
i am myself using airtel data card(with both fedora and ubuntu), which fits in pcmcia slots, and have seen other people use usb(specifically idea one) things with Linux. Yes they work pretty fine, you can use both wvdial or pppd to connect to internet via those cards.

Ideally, we need it to work by just plugging it in. Fiddling with wvdial is sub-optimal. If you have the configuration details, please file a RFE against NetworkManager in http://bugzilla.redhat.com.
