Hi,
I had a conversation with Sirko on IRC and he pointed out that since a FUDCon banner will be used just once and then discarded, it might be a good idea to make it as a cloth banner and not a standee. A cloth banner can be cut and reused, while a standee may have to just be discarded. We can make a few generic Fedora project standee banners instead (we already have a design for those), which we can use in other events.
Thoughts?

How about having a generic FUDCon APAC standee and ship it off to whatever FUDCon location every year.

I am of that opinion too, and I had mentioned that in the meeting yesterday. It could be a handy 'gift' from one FUDCon organizing team to another, with maybe a sticker stuck on the standee to mark its journey through various events.

Each FUDCon has their own logo, so this may not always work.

We could make it with the generic FUDCon logo (the four blue bubbles).

It's good to have an identity for each event -- plus the venue, etc. need some mention too, esp. if they're hosting for gratis.
I think it'll be difficult to have a neutral FUDCon-only banner.

And shipping charges may offset any economic gains in reusing the banners.

I was not exactly thinking about shipping costs at all. I was thinking on the lines that if the bid is finalized before the previous FUDCon then someone can carry the standees to the next location with them when they go back from the current FUDCon. If the bid is not finalized then someone from the previous FUDCon can carry it to the next location when they go to attend. I am sure we'll always have a large number of same people in APAC FUDCon and shipping cost would not be a concern.

This could be a really fun addition to FUDPub - sort of passing the baton on - may be when the event owner is doing his bit at the end?

Last time (2011), we gave the banners to ambassadors who had come here for the FUDCon. It's easy to fold them and carry them in regular suitcases.

OT:
Siddhesh,
Can we have a web button for our blogs? Last time we had a nice button for FUDcon 2011 in Pune.
I still use it in my blog.
Would be nice if someone can update the image ;-)

A standee could be cut too, if these need to be re-used.
Last time we had a good balance of neutral (Fedora Project) and event-specific banners and standees. The neutral ones can be re-used; we even gave some off to other ambassadors from the region the last time so they can use them.
However, storing the non-cloth banners is a big problem - they go bad after a while (colour fades off, the material sticks, so it has to be separated and that means damage). So these are usually unsuitable after a while.
So cloth is a better option for re-use in that sense -- storage is easier and they won't go bad.
Even then, I think we should have both, event-specific and neutral banners / standees. There needs to be awareness of a conference happening rather than just a project's promo materials at the venue.
We can make a few generic Fedora project standee banners instead (we already have a design for those), which we can use in other events.
We should do both. Also, the generic ones can be used for booth space in later events.
In general, I agree we should look at using cloth-based material for these banners/standees.

You mean the roll-up standees? I didn't know they could be modified that way.

Oh, I wasn't referring to the material of the banner, I was referring to the type of banner, i.e. the vertical one that can be rolled up vs the kind that could be hung at entrances. The former are likely expensive but are considered more durable. So making a fudcon pune 2015 banner would be more cost-effective than a standee.

Right, I did not mean to say the opposite. The point was to decide on the kind of banner, not banners themselves.

Agreed.

Yea; just cut them and make new frames for the new size.

From 2011, my recollection is that all of this material is not
expensive.
We even donated several of the standees to other ambassadors, and the venue was interested in the wooden frames, which we donated to them.

Yea - we did not have cloth banners last time, but that's a good idea for reasons you and I listed earlier.

But it's late June, we'll likely have soggy banners!

Ooh yea, good point!
If we install them right (very tight), it shouldn't be a problem, but that's just leaving things to chance.
