[Fedora-infrastructure-list] TurboGears instance on pkgdb

I wrestled with SELinux, Apache, and TurboGears today and finally got the packageDB TurboGears instance running[1]_. If you're interested, the pieces are running behind Apache on test3. You can access it via ssh tunnel. On your machine:: ssh -L 8888:test3:80 bastion Then browse to http://localhost:8888/pkgdb/ The TuurboGears code resides on test3 in /var/www/repo/fedora-packagedb and has several parts: pkgdb.conf: The httpd conf file to Proxy requests to the pkgdb directory to the TurboGears Server. It also contains a custom 503 error handler that calls our autostart cgi. tg-autostart.cgi: When the turbogears server isn't running already, this script gets invoked to start it up. I was not able to get this to run with FC-5's apache but more tweaking now that I have it working on FC-6 might create something that works. http.avc: This file has the AVC messages that deny the autostart.cgi. Running `audit2allow -M httpd -i http.avc; semodule -i httpd.pp` should get SELinux setup to allow this. pkgdb/dev.cfg: I had to set: server.socket_port=8080 server.socket_host="localhost" in order for TurboGears to work under FC-6. Hope this helps if you're planning to deploy a TurboGears app on an infrastructure box. dgilmore, c4chris: if you get up to speed on kid templates or python programming, this should be set to dive into. (I'll get back to work on importing the data now.) -Toshio [1]_ : Note that the PackageDB app isn't written yet, this is just a heads up that I've gotten all the pieces for a TurboGears application to start up.

We've had a few new introductions to the list. Welcome! For those ready to jump right in I have two tickets that have been out there for a while. One of which could be fairly easy, the other - not so easy. We've got one outstanding ticket to create something more meaningful when a new account gets created. Anyone with a fedora user account can access and comment on this ticket so if you're interested in working on it, reply to the list and I'll lock it for you. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/tickets/customer.pl?Action=CustomerTicketZo… The other task may take quite a bit longer. Unfortunately we don't have a test version of our current accounting system so whoever wants it will have to spend some time installing the various components, databases and getting it up and going. It would be great if they had their own test environment for this, if not we can set you up with one but our resources are limited so it will take longer :) This ticket can be found at: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/tickets/customer.pl?Action=CustomerTicketZo… Anyone interested in either of these tickets can let me know and I'll lock it for them. Make sure you reply to the list so we don't have multiple people working on the same issues. Neither of these tickets require sponsorship, just a signed CLA. There's plenty to be done. If you're not interested/able to do these tasks don't worry. Stuff pops up all the time! Hello, to introduce me, I first need to apologize for my frenchy english. RHCE since 3 years, I'm working as Linux consultant and I've time to contribute as I'm working all day long we Fedora Core systems. My own enterprise uses Xen enabled on remote FC5 systems infrastructure to separate mail, dev an web applications. So here is a peace of my skills: - linux and Xen systems administration - system debugging - mail, web, DNS systems administration - bash, perl scripting with system applications: working on a perl based project with a client since 4 years around print migration to RHEL3 from IBM mainframe - Python beginner (I still managed to translate in french and hack Trac v0.9.6 for my enterprise needs) - eternal C/C++ beginner - MySQL/PostgreSQL basic development - packaging RPM - open-minded and meddlesome ("Touche-à-tout" in french) I'm working with x86 and AMD x86_64 computers. Provide assistance on the Linux-cluster mailing list for issues with the Redhat Cluster Suite. Random patches and assistance with other projects (PostgreSQL, linux-scsi, mozplugger) o What level and type of computer skills do you have? Almost 10 years working with Linux, 6 of which with Linux as my primary operating system both at work, and at home. Five years supporting Linux web and application servers at work. I code primarily in Java, C, Perl, and PHP. (I've had a few brief touches with Python when bugfixes required it.) With varying years of experience for each one (average of 5 or so) 5+ years experience in SQL, database management, and schema design. PostgreSQL is the major one that's relevant here, but I'm fairly well versed in multiple RDBMs. 2 years Experience with Virtual machines (VMWare based) I used GForge and CVS to implement a development tracking system and process at work to meet regulatory requirements. o What other skills do you have that might be applicable? Currently support 24x7x365 production critical servers in multiple locations in the world. So I'm well versed in remote support of systems. Hey guys, I've been somewhat annoyed by the reports we've been getting. Is there a compelling reason why we need to have invalid connection attempts to proxy* logged? Why don't we just remove the -J LOG call and REJECT the connection normally? We're not going to DO anything about the connection so why not decrease the garbage that we see in the log reports? -sv

Hello, As following "orders" as placed on the GettingStarted page on the wiki; I'll introduce myself a little: I'm John Kraal, currently a professional analyst for a logistics software company which is currently migrating clients from UNIX (AIX and HP-UX) to Fedora and Red Hat based-systems. I'm currently writing scripts in Python and ksh to make installation and support tasks easier (next to the normal things I do, which include programming and designing of software) Fair enough, there is my experience, I write Python (besides UML and C :P) for a living. I'm an experienced python developer, developing with python for about 2 years. My current project is a postgresql backended isp billing application with python and it's about 60,000 lines of python code now. Though the application interaction with web-server is through XML-RPC protocol, I've also experience of web development with php, python and java. I'm familiar with linux system administration, in areas of general networking(ifconfig, iptables, ip, tc), apache, squid, a little bind and everything else I've got into.
