Here is my suggestion: Can we find someone that sponsors the development of an askbot fork, fixing and adapting it to our needs? Let's say Red Hat Winter of Code - and we find a couple of students that are willing to fix it?

Re TLDR: keep askbot alive, it's efficient (for end-users) and different from all other types of existing forums/MLs/IRCs, and find someone that patches the major bugs and annoyances.
So, this is the problem - if we had someone actively either developing or maintaining askbot, we wouldn't be in this situation in the first place. From a development perspective, I'm not sure how practical it is to fork askbot to tune it for Fedora - we sort of like sticking to upstream (less duplication of code, more fixes for all downstreams).
The other issue is while it may be possible to get someone to work on askbot temporarily via GSoC and all that, it doesn't solve the issue of having someone maintain it in the long run. :(
PS: may the people discussing Zanata and translation please fork the thread and use a different subject so we can continue the askbot discussion on this one? :)
