Greetings.
we have had http://paste.stg.fedoraproject.org/ up for a while and it
seems to be getting a fair bit of use. I don't know of any outstanding
issues on it... should we look at moving it to a production instance?
There was some question about possibly getting another domain for it so
it's not so long to type (paste.fedoraproject.org), do we want to do
that, and if so what?
- Setup production instance/db
- Push new fpaste client that points to production.
- See about getting fpaste.org to just redirect to it / resolve to it.
Thoughts? Feedback?

Hello
I do think the current URL is quite long therefore good to have a
shorter one which align with fedoraproject.org rather than switching
to another domain. Like paste.fedoraproject.org but still it is long
:)

I sort of like the longer name - it promotes that it is the Fedora
Project if nothing else.

Yes, i really like to have *paste.fedoraproject.org* but may be others
will feel it is long. However I do not like to have another domain

These are quite long names, and for the content associated with
pastebin related activities having the URL directly associated with
the full project URL does not seem that important.
These domains are all currently open:
fedpaste.co / .org
fpaste.co
fpbin.co / .org
Or perhaps keep paste.fedoraproject.org and link with one of the other
thousand URL shorteners out there. (Or have fedora host a shortener
for all fedora related links if people really want that)

These are quite long names, and for the content associated with

No current policy that I know of.
The policy is that Red Hat "buys" the domain name from the registrar
as it is the trademark owner and protector of various "Fedora" things.
It is done via an internal process that makes sure it is with the same
vendor so that we don't end up with huge transfer costs down the road
as has happened when things were done willy nilly (or someone
forgetting to renew a domain and it getting snatched and ransomed).

I think a link shortener would be great for general use. If we could
grab http://fed.io, then the "fpaste" cli tool could automatically
pass your paste.fedoraproject.org url through the shortener on each
run.

I would go fpaste.org or paste.fedoraproject.org most projects just do
paste. the domain being long is an issue for the whole site not just the
paste app.

Sure, fed.io was just a concept. Just to be clear, github and a few
other large projects use .io for shortening. I don't think pastes in
and of themselves are really a professional concern, but that's just
my opinion.
On the other hand, fpaste.org is a domain that it seems we cannot own,
or I would have gone with that right away to keep it the same as what
we have, plus there is interest in using paste.fedoraproject.org for
sure. I think this is just a nice convenient tool for linking in irc,
email and other good uses. I was looking at fpas.te and it's not
taken, so that could work. I'm not sure the restrictions on the .te
domain, but it could be worth looking into. Who do we ask to look into
this if we're interested?

- modify fpaste to point now to production and push all those packages
out to the various fedora/epel branches.
- See about redirecting fpaste.org to paste.fedoraproject.org. I'm not
sure how good that will be until we have had fpaste out stable for a
while, as the old fpaste will likely error out if it's pointing to
the new domain/interface. Perhaps someone could test that?
- Setup any better domain if we can pick one.
- Announce widely and call done.

Sounds good to me, short, simple, to the point.
I think the 'better domain' part really fits better as a url shortener
since other services within fedora will use the url shortener as well.
