17:00:02 <nirik> #topic init process
17:00:02 <zodbot> The meeting name has been set to 'irc-support-sig'
17:00:48 <mether> I am here if anyone has any questions on the ticket I filed
17:02:15 <nirik> mether: we will get to it in the tickets section. ;)
17:03:18 <nirik> if anyone is here to meet that is.
17:03:27 * LoKoMurdoK here
17:03:43 * fenrus02 peeks in to a nearly empty room
17:03:59 * zcat viewed about 15 minutes of #fedora last week. can't say much.
17:05:04 <nirik> ok, lets get started.
17:05:04 <EvilBob> Bacon
17:05:06 <zcat> 'cept i see that f16 beta rc4 is almost ready
17:05:34 <nirik> #topic Week in review
17:05:35 <nirik> http://fedora.theglaserfamily.org/ircstats/fedora-weekly.html
17:05:50 <nirik> cool. I am down on the list today
17:06:20 * dcr226 passes out bacon
17:06:30 <fenrus02> odd. was the stats page broke? seems like mighty small numbers
17:06:31 <nirik> anyone have anything they would like to note from this last week?
17:06:33 <EvilBob> We've had some real assholes on at night(US Time)
17:06:45 <nirik> EvilBob: yeah, saw something about that. ;(
17:07:13 <EvilBob> about 3 of the last 5 nights
17:08:25 <EvilBob> So if any ops are alive between 1 and 5AM US Central time...
17:08:28 <Khaytsus> EvilBob: Who's around at 3-4am?
17:08:30 <nirik> anvil was often around then in the past... but I guess not recently.
17:08:35 <dcr226> I am usually
17:08:44 * N3LRX pokes his nose in
17:08:53 <DiscordianUK> sorry I'm late
17:09:09 <nirik> well, we should try and make sure we have coverage to handle then...
17:09:18 <Khaytsus> EvilBob: Do you not have "bot ops" where you can quiet from the bot?
17:09:18 <nirik> especially if they are making it a nightly issue. ;(
17:09:58 <dcr226> or maybe not...I caught the end of something this morning, but it was about 8am my time
17:10:04 <dcr226> well, maybe 9
17:10:22 <EvilBob> dcr226: Yeah that was about 2 hours after it started
17:10:33 <nirik> #info will try and make sure ops are around tonight and see if we can cover the gap
17:10:38 <nirik> anything else we can do?
17:10:46 <EvilBob> nope
17:11:09 <dcr226> EvilBob, if your active in the channel at that time, why not have botops on it?
17:11:25 <fenrus02> what level of pestilence are they? minor irritant, or major outright disturbance in the force?
17:11:32 <dcr226> I mean, you've been more active lately than any other time that I've been involved in the project
17:11:45 <EvilBob> I'm not an op in that channel
17:12:24 <nirik> fenrus02: some of both I think.
17:12:32 <nirik> anyhow, should we move on? or ?
17:12:33 <Khaytsus> Don't think the bot knows who are ops in the actual channel, right?
17:12:42 <dcr226> Khaytsus, yeah it does
17:12:45 <Khaytsus> oh okay
17:13:04 <dcr226> but you can have +o on the bot (#fedora,op) and it will give the same effect

17:15:02 <nirik> kudos to several folks in the channel.

17:15:19 <nirik> " It is what gives me hope/energy to keep on trying when I meet serious obstacles in Fedora."
17:15:22 * fenrus02 hattips nirik
17:15:25 <nirik> good to hear.

17:15:45 <zodbot> nirik: #74 (ask.fedoraproject.org in the channel topic) - irc-support-sig - Trac
17:16:00 <EvilBob> Add it to the topic +1
17:16:14 <nirik> sure. I don't care much. No one reads the topic. ;)
17:16:24 <dcr226> +1 add it
17:16:39 <DiscordianUK> +1
17:16:42 <Khaytsus> I like the idea, haven't looked at the website yet.
17:16:57 <Khaytsus> I intend to look and understand what the moderation level is, who is answering the questions, etc...
17:16:58 <nirik> it needs more/better questions and answers. ;)
17:17:01 <EvilBob> I don't understand it, but that is beyond the scope of the request and this meeting
17:17:02 <nirik> but hopefully in time...
17:17:06 <fenrus02> append away. too bad fpo doesnt have a shorter-link service
17:17:24 <Khaytsus> fenrus02: I'm sure someone can bang out a few thousands lines of Python to do it
17:17:34 * fenrus02 chortles
17:17:43 <dcr226> Khaytsus, don't set him off
17:17:46 <Khaytsus> :D
17:17:47 <mether> fenrus02, one is being setup for fedora qa I think
17:17:53 <fenrus02> Khaytsus, yeah, that has worked out so well for t.co (hacked, hacked, and hacked again this week alone)
17:18:02 <fenrus02> mether, awesome!
17:18:13 <nirik> there's also one being worked on as part of insight.
17:18:21 <nirik> dunno the status there tho
17:18:51 <Khaytsus> Cool. Needs "keywords" like fp.o/ask
17:18:58 <mether> I have a side request related to ask. If you find something worth documenting, you can ask a question and answer it yourself
17:18:58 <Khaytsus> not fp.o/j4Dxk
17:19:15 <dcr226> Khaytsus, or we could use factoids on the channel
17:19:29 <dcr226> Khaytsus, like @fso nvidia
17:19:58 <fenrus02> dcr226, need one for fglrx, nvidia, skhype, gnome3, and ${next}release
17:20:05 <EvilBob> It's pointless, half the questions can't go there for legal reasons. and users can't be bothered to go read a link anyhow.
17:20:08 <dcr226> fenrus02, yeah, all of em
17:20:33 <mether> EvilBob, ask fedora doesn't have any real restrictions on what type of question to ask or answer
17:20:37 <fenrus02> EvilBob, would you make truecrypt work and just do it for me? :)
17:20:56 <EvilBob> mether: How did you get that one around Red Hat Legal
17:21:01 <EvilBob> and for how long?
17:21:21 <mether> EvilBob, user generated content = Legal doesnt care
17:21:38 <EvilBob> mether: they've always cared about the black hole
17:21:44 <EvilBob> I mean, wiki
17:21:53 <fenrus02> mether, even if $user has signed fpcla?
17:22:11 <EvilBob> Never mind that the community has been providing this content for years
17:22:17 <mether> I asked and this was the answer I got.
17:22:32 <nirik> I think it's like the channel...
17:22:51 <fenrus02> odd. in that case, i've got to stomp a few wiki pages that are blatantly incorrect
17:22:54 <fenrus02> (legal set them)
17:23:00 <mether> they treat it similar to questions in #fedora or users mailing list afaik
17:23:25 <nirik> anyhow, I suppose this is beyond our scope?
17:23:32 <nirik> #info add ask to topic.
17:23:33 <fenrus02> nirik, indeed
17:23:34 <EvilBob> The community has fedorasolved.org answering these questions that anyone can contribute to.
17:23:37 <mether> yep. offtopic
17:23:41 <dcr226> +1 move on
17:23:45 <EvilBob> but again this is outside the scope of this meeting
17:23:45 <nirik> #topic Open Floor
17:24:29 <nirik> anyone have anything for open floor?
17:24:51 * dcr226 throws a bag of marbles out into the open floor, and turns the lights off
17:24:53 <dcr226> like that?
17:24:56 <dcr226> ;-)
17:25:21 * dcr226 guesses not
17:25:36 <fenrus02> dcr226, you need to wax the floor to a high shine first
17:26:02 <nirik> would someone like to close tickets this week?
17:26:10 <nirik> and would someone like to mail the minutes to the list? ;)
17:27:01 <dcr226> I'll close
17:27:33 <nirik> dcr226: thanks.

http://ask.fedoraproject.org was launched recently and I would like
#fedora channel topic to provide a link to it just to raise visibility for
say up until a month after Fedora 16 release if not permanently. It would
be useful to document answers for some of the typical questions that get
bought up in the channel and a more permanent place to look them up could
reduce the support burden. Also would be useful to highlight the common
bugs or unique problems that come up from time to time.

? Don't know, maybe give nirik some kudo's because he helped me effective
& friendly.
I am/feel invited here by 'fedbot' after I just complimented the whole
channel with
its very nice attitude. I thought I could give a litle more by '!
registrering an account
to give some feedback'. So I repeat: nice, civilized attitude. Wish I
could remember more
names that showed super-patience & friendliness in #fedora. It is what
gives me hope/energy to keep on trying when I meet serious obstacles in
Fedora.

Please briefly describe the interaction that caused you to file this
ticket:
The support and expertise at #fedora was wonderful! After installing
httpd, php, and php-common I was unable to get a test.php file to work.
/var/www/httpd/error_log gave the following error.
[Fri Sep 09 13:24:35 2011] [error] [client 192.168.1.174] PHP Fatal error:
Unknown: Failed opening required '/var/www/html/test.php'
(include_path='.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php') in Unknown on line 0
Affix determined the problem was with SELinux. I had moved the test.php
from /tmp/ (where it was created) to /var/www/html/, and so had to
explicitly grant SELinux permissions to allow the file to be web-readable.
Affix showed me the following command.
chcon -Rv --type=httpd_sys_content_t /var/www/html/*
This solved the issue.

For days now I have been beating my head against the wall and asked a few
times in the #fedora channel trying to find out why one of my machines
would not boot the 2.6.35.14-96.fc14.i686 kernel. The machine was locking
up on boot before any logging took place and I could not find out why.
nirik came up with the solution in 5 minutes. Rebuild initramfs, I did so
and it boots fine. Thanks nirik!

(06:25:34 PM) arcticOcean: VileGent, Should there be an rpm package for
teamspeak?
(06:25:48 PM) VileGent: arcticOcean: ask teamspeak
(06:26:11 PM) arcticOcean: Does rpmfusion ask everyone they make packages
for?
(06:26:16 PM) TC01: or http://rpm.pbone.net/
(06:26:59 PM) VileGent: arcticOcean: they have specific license issue
they will touch and teamspeak isnt one of them
(06:27:07 PM) VileGent: see rpmfusion.org

My IRC nick is: JoeJulian
Please briefly describe the interaction that caused you to file this
ticket:
After posting a question in the channel, my question was ignored and the
fact that I was testing a rawhide package was attacked, despite the fact
that it turned out to be irrelevant.
I found my problem was some 32 bit dri libraries that, apparently,
anaconda did not upgrade when I did the DVD upgrade from F14 to F15. The
library files existed, but there was no package associated with them.
I was pointed to
http://fedorasolved.org/Members/fenris02/post_upgrade_cleanup to "solve my
problem". I tried it and it did not. When I tried to find out which of the
12 steps he expected would solve or expose a problem like that, I was
ignored.
The entire exchange started out with hostility and has remained hostile.

Please describe what action or positive change could be adopted based on
this feedback: Like is stated in the notes for creating tickets, act as if
you're speaking to your grandmother. Be nice.
Any additional notes or logs:

(10:47:36 PM) JoeJulian: I had an error in a mesa driver, so after seeing
that the error's been fixed recently, I installed the rawhide mesa-dri-
drivers. The error still comes up and says, "EE r600_shader.c:863
tgsi_unsupported - TXD tgsi opcode unsupported". The thing is, I
downloaded the rawhide src rpm and did a rpmbuild prep to look at
r600_shader.c. The error should now be coming from line 920. What could
cause the older replaced library to be loading?
(10:49:03 PM) fenrus02: rawhide is currently tracking f17.
(10:49:24 PM) fenrus02: you likely do not want that package, and would be
better off with whatever version matches your current distrover
(10:49:57 PM) JoeJulian: Uh-huh... now about the fact that it's not
loading the library that's actually resident on my hard driver?
(10:50:03 PM) JoeJulian: drive*
(10:54:00 PM) fenrus02: self inflicted problem. see /topic for hints.
(10:54:12 PM) JoeJulian: Nope. I found it though.
(10:54:44 PM) JoeJulian: Looks like somewhere along the way an i386
version got orphaned...
(10:55:06 PM) JoeJulian: I'm going to blame anaconda.
(10:55:25 PM) fenrus02: why? anaconda didnt mangle up your f15 install
with f17 packages.
(10:55:38 PM) fenrus02: that was caused by you and you alone.
(10:55:43 PM) JoeJulian: No, but it "upgraded" my f14 install to f15.
(10:56:03 PM) JoeJulian: and left f14 x86 dri drivers behind.
(10:56:18 PM) fenrus02: you did not mention that you prefailgraded. here,
see http://fedorasolved.org/Members/fenris02/post_upgrade_cleanup
(10:56:54 PM) JoeJulian: You didn't ask. You went straight for the "you
don't know anything you idiot" approach.
(10:57:07 PM) JoeJulian: It's about as helpful as #centos.
(10:58:13 PM) fenrus02: your call. the above url will clean your mess for
you JoeJulian. you can decide to live with misery for the next few months
while you sort it out yourself of course.
(10:59:30 PM) JoeJulian: I just don't understand why people have to jump
on people the way you guys do. In #gluster where I help people all the
time, we sometimes get people who've done it wrong too, but we don't treat
them like garbage.
(10:59:59 PM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, the url above really will fix your
issue. your call.
(11:01:40 PM) JoeJulian: I was going through that. The only things on that
that I hadn't done are the ones listed as optional. I'm looking at those
now.
(11:02:50 PM) JoeJulian: Yeah, wouldn't have helped to have done it again.
The files were in /var/lib/dri but there was no package associated with
them.
(11:03:06 PM) JoeJulian: (and this is a 64 bit install)
(11:03:17 PM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, your call. you failed to follow it in
order, so not my problem.
(11:03:49 PM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, really, it does fix 64bit issues, and
even the one you mentioned above. in fact, it fixes all but ~4 issues.
none of which you have mentioned.
(11:03:51 PM) JoeJulian: I failed to do that, huh? What are you talking
about?
(11:42:48 PM) JoeJulian: fenrus02: I went through that page again... still
neither touched /usr/lib/dri/* nor listed it in any of the steps. I'm
really not sure how you thought it would since almost every step on there
pulls data from the rpm database which would never list those files.
(11:46:15 PM) JoeJulian: btw, my blame against Anaconda is not unfounded.
A good friend of mine was quoted as saying, “The favorite whipping boy
around here is anaconda. Every slow or failed install is anaconda’s
fault. Never mind that someone here wrote it.”
(07:08:28 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, never? you sure about that? hint: You
didnt look.
(07:11:49 AM) JoeJulian: Yes, I am sure. I followed the procedure (again)
step-by-step just to make sure I wasn't missing something in my state of
exhaustion.
(07:12:07 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, you did not look in the right place
then. it's there.
(07:12:22 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, specifically, look at mesa-dri-*
(07:14:16 AM) JoeJulian: Are we talking about the same thing? I'm
referring to your post_upgrade_cleanup procedure.
(07:15:01 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, one and the same. i'm merely referring
to your false statement: <JoeJulian> fenrus02: I went through that page
again... still neither touched /usr/lib/dri/* nor listed it in any of the
steps. I'm really not sure how you thought it would since almost every
step on there pulls data from the rpm database which would never list
those files.
(07:16:03 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, before you get all high and mighty, you
might want to actually *look* at that set of packages I pointed out. they
*do* put files where you said they did not.
(07:17:57 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, if you insist on pursuing this line of
thought, 'fpaste /root/tmp/[A-Z]*.txt' or wherever you stored your files
created in those steps.
(07:20:58 AM) JoeJulian: The i686 rpm was not in the Package table. The
files were in /usr/lib/dri/* with no package to validate them against. The
closest step to reinstalling them was optional step 3 as mesa-dri-drivers
is in base-x, but it didn't install the 32bit when I ran it, just the 64
bit.
(07:21:23 AM) JoeJulian: (well, it didn't "install" the 64 bit because it
was already installed.)
(07:22:22 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, if you insist on pursuing this line of
thought, 'fpaste /root/tmp/[A-Z]*.txt' or wherever you stored your files
created in those steps.
(07:29:13 AM) JoeJulian: http://fpaste.org/0Fcn/ http://fpaste.org/Kixk/
http://fpaste.org/aYMI/
(07:33:48 AM) JoeJulian: You didn't want the raw -Va output, did you?
(07:36:44 AM) fenrus02: depends if you want help.
(07:39:02 AM) JoeJulian: Can you just drop the hostility? The very first
thing you did was chastise me without regard to my question. A simple,
"yes please" would have been polite, and a simple "yes" would have been
sufficient.
(07:39:49 AM) JoeJulian: http://fpaste.org/7kLW/
(07:43:45 AM) JoeJulian: Would you be willing to tell me which of the
steps along the way you expected that issue to have been fixed? I've been
wondering since you first suggested it.
(07:44:24 AM) JoeJulian: or, if not fixed, at least exposed?
(07:50:29 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, depends which issue you are referring
to really. you have several that i can see, but only mentioned one which
you resolved last night. yet you continue, so you must have realized at
least some others.
(07:53:24 AM) JoeJulian: No, I was just frustrated that you were being so
hostile right from the start. Your certainty did make me curious, as I was
already aware of who you were (I've followed your guide many times) so I
was actually hoping you were right and I could learn something.
(07:56:58 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, dont be rude when asking questions.
dont blame others when you caused your own grief. i am not being hostile
to you at all.
(08:00:31 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, i will only answer the questions you
ask.
(08:00:42 AM) JoeJulian: I posted a question with some background. The
question was, "What could cause the older replaced library to be loading?"
The answer was, "self inflicted problem. see /topic for hints."
(08:02:35 AM) JoeJulian: But going back to my last question, which I felt
was phrased nicely and still offered me the opportunity to learn
something, "Would you be willing to tell me which of the steps along the
way you expected that issue to have been fixed?"
(08:02:37 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, you installed rawhide graphics fun.
(08:02:50 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, as explained earlier, rawhide is
currently tracking f17
(08:03:00 AM) fenrus02: JoeJulian, you are running f15. the two do not
mesh well.
(08:03:10 AM) JoeJulian: Which could have caused failure, but not the
failure I was asking about.
(08:03:15 AM) fenrus02: heh
(08:03:33 AM) fenrus02: ok JoeJulian - have fun, enjoy.
