But I thought project settings correct and all artifacts present because
$ mvn install -DskipTests=true -Pcopy-dep
command finished gracefully.

mvn-rpmbuild will only use maven artifacts/plugins installed on local system as
RPMs. We have no aspecj-maven-plugin in Fedora and I assume you didn't create
it yourself. Ergo mvn-rpmbuild couldn't find it. 

mvn-rpmbuild is supposed to be used by packagers to create RPMs, not by Maven
users.

Is it possible use mvn-rpmbuild to package software with online resolution of
dependencies as mvn does?

Short answer: NO
Long answer: mvn-rpmbuild is designed to work with only system installed
libraries. There is a middle ground mvn-local which will use system installed
when available and fetch online when not available but this makes no sense for
mvn-rpmbuild as builds will fail because koji builds are offline.

Could we use mvn-rpmbuild with the -Dmaven.repo.local=`pwd`/.m2 
and put the artifacts and poms from %{SOURCE} in the .m2 folder so that
mvn-rpmbuild can resolve those dependencies?

I've been trying in vain to get mvn-rpmbuild to look into the local maven repo
to find artifacts when they are not in /usr/share/java.

mvn-rpmbuild doesn't affect reactor builds and our custom resolver is actually
invoked by Maven only if it can't find the dependency in current reactor build
or local repo. I'd suggest verifying you have poms and jars in the right place.
I tested this just now and it is working for me. By the way, mvn-rpmbuild uses
$(pwd)/.m2 by default so there should be no need to redefine.
