Puppet required?
by Avram Lubkin
I was looking over the project and it looks interesting, much improved over
Spacewalk. I particularly like how different projects are used instead of
one monolithic project. There's just one thing that concerns me. It looks
like if I want to do provisioning I have to use Foreman and if I use
Foreman I have to use Puppet. Since Puppet requires ruby installed on all
clients I can't deploy it. This is due to a security requirement. I can't
add interpreters to a system unless I have a good justification. I can do
what puppet does without adding another interpreter, so I can't justify it.
I know there are lots of organizations that use puppet and probably install
Ruby to support it, but I've never worked with a group that would allow
that. Any plans to support CFengine or something similar that wouldn't
require another interpreter on the clients? Python is Okay too, since any
RHEL or RHEL-like system already has it.
Please reply all, not on the list.
Thanks,
Avram

Package storage location?
by Stewart, Douglas H
Hypothetically, let's say I'm space-constrained on a local device but have plenty of SAN space to dump ISOs, RPMs, etc. on. How would I go about putting those sizable pieces of data out onto said SAN space? Is it as as simple as moving a couple of directories and symlinking, or is it something more profound?

Can't check on much after initial sync

Anyone ever run into this one?
ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid in SyncManagementController#index
Dashboard loads fine. RedHat channels error out too:

Problems with gems trying to install katello
by Nicolas Michel
Hello guys,
I can't install Katello on a RHEL 6.3. x86_64. I followed the instructions
here : https://fedorahosted.org/katello/wiki/Install
I successfully installed the katello-all package. Then I started the
katello-configure as said in the wiki. I now have that error :
$ katello-configure
Starting Katello configuration
The top-level log file is
[/var/log/katello/katello-configure-20120925-082912/main.log]

[root@labsrv46 katello]# cat

If I look at the content of the db_migrate.log :
cat /var/log/katello/katello-configure/db_migrate.log
Could not find rake-0.8.7 in any of the sources
Try running `bundle install`.
But a gem list" shows that rake 0.8.7 is well installed :

A "bundle install ." in /usr/share/katello worked but needed to install
ruby-devel, gcc, gcc-c++, postgresql-devel (not really a good thing for
production) :
bundle install .
