* keep kdepim-4.6 or revert to kdepim-4.4. Testing so far as been mixed:
** rdieter did quick test against gmail imap: ok
** dgilmore testing against ~100gb imap mail: (mostly) fail, initial sync of 
data resulted in akonadi crash, and pegging cpu for quite awhile.
** anyone else have any testing feedback, good or bad?

* missing deps (4.6, koffice)...

recent bugs:
* some keyboard options/layouts (set via system-config-keyboard) make kdm input 
non-functional [1]

missing deps (4.6, koffice)...

* kdeedu
** gosmore and routino are the offline routing, runtime deps
** we don't want to enable experimental Python bindings for Marble now
** ACTION: Kevin_Kofler to look at gosmore and routino (and convince local GIS 
geek - volter - to look at too)
* KOffice: there's a bunch of compile-time deps missing, they're already in a 
specfile comment
** ACTION: jreznik to look on missing KO deps

keep kdepim-4.6 or revert to kdepim-4.4

* user reports
** rdieter report success using kmail 4.6 with his 100 mb GMail mailbox
** dgilmore testing against ~100gb imap mail: (mostly) fail, initial sync of

* AGREED: to make 2 go/no-go decisions for kdepim 4.6? 1. Is it testable by Feb 
8 (feature freeze)? 2. Do the tests look good by 100% complete deadline (March 
22)

Hi,

Using kmail2 (kdepim-4.5.94.1-1.fc15.x86_64) with gmail and a local provider 
(dds.nl) - both imap - and it works great. Akonadi  needs some attention 
(crash at log out, see [1,2]). The same for the latest Virtuoso-opensource 
(6.1.3 rc3) (still haven't found any clues ;-().

I've started using new kmal on one computer some time ago and I still regret I 
did no make any mail backup before. I have about 7 mail accounts. 5x pop3, 2x 
imap. One imap account is really huge. I can see a great improvement from first 
4.5 release, but it's still too slow and resource hungry. Time to time I can 
see my computer being much slower. When I look at top output, it's always the 
same: akonadi+mysql. If I had my backups I won't be using it. Also compared 
with 4.4.9 kmail I use on different computer, it's much slower to use. Maybe 
there are some benefits like supercool searching thanks akonadi, but for my 
work I do not use that feature, so I don't see any benefit at all, on the other 
hand I can see the negatives (amount of resources it requires, slowness...) 
pretty well.

I have 9 dimap (cached imap) accounts.

Since I have been testing kde-4.6 (almost two months ago) kdepim was updated 
and kontact/kmail would crash at start. When I test kdepim-4.6 the computer 
crawls with akonadi and mysql and no kmail.

The only workaround for me was to reconfigure every accounts to use 
thunderbird. Between thunderbird and kmail I prefer kmail but at least I could 
read my email.

Finally, two weeks ago, after seing the announce of a new kontact that 
supported akonadi from kde-4.6 I added these lines to kde.repo
exclude=kdepim
exclude=kdepim-*

downgraded kdepim and kdepim-libs and I have lived happy ever since (not 
necessarily but you get the idea).

So for me kdepim-4.6 simply does not work. :-(

To be clear, we're mostly interested in testing/feedback of the lastest 
builds, kdepim-4.5.94.1 (or newer).

(We are already aware of much badness with previous 4.6 pre-release builds).

I'm always using the latest with hope that it will become much better. I agree 
there was much more badness in previous 4.6 pre-release builds, but from my 
pov the progress made is still not sufficient.

Does Kmail2 still more than double the diskspace used if you have
local maildirs? (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249987)

I run on a small SSD and space is at a premium. When I tested kmail 2
it took my 15Gb of mail and with the akonadi cache and the nepomuk
index ended up using more than 32Gb. That's 25% of my drive space,
which I can't justify. Its great that kmail2 doesn't touch existing
mail to avoid risks of corruption etc, but I can't test kmail2 until
there is an option to not cache ALL the mail store. I presume there
are other users in this category.

 At the moment I am back to using Gnus - migration was a pain due to
kmail's non-standard maildirs, but now working great.

I'll keep trying every PIM beta release, but up to now the migration process 
does not see any of my additional folders, tonight I even changed the folder 
layout to something more sensible.
I'm also hit with the "permission denied to roots mailbox, kmail will 
terminate" bug/problem. So I am back running PIM 4.4.9 with 4.6 RC2

I'll do another search on kde.bugs etc over the weekend on these issues,
