Unfortunately I can't find the message, and I have problems with agent on the F10 netbook and the newly repaired CentOS 5.2 box. I don't recall doing it, much less why, but I have an 8GB SD card containing data, but it is LUKS encrypted. I can read it here, on Fedora, but it's not terribly useful, since I can't read it on, for instance, my daughter's Windows system. There must be some way of removing the encryption? Any hints? Man pages in dolphin or konqueror

I have been in the habit of reading man pages in konqueror when I need to study them, as the formatting makes it easier on the eye. I haven't been able to since we moved to KDE4. Is this something still missing from the konq-extras, or do I have something wrong? Typing 'man:yum' tells me that it can't find any man page for yum, yet using the cli it works perfectly. Hello all, Never noticed it until today (no idea why). But dolphin (KDE 4.3.2 / F11) doesn't preview pdf/doc/html files. Is it a known issue or am I missing a package ? (okular is working just fine, latest kdegraphics is installed) - Gilboa

Lost facility with xdvi

Xdvi on my Fedora-11/KDE machine no longer seems to keep up with changes in the DVI file. Previously, I could latex foo.tex in one window, and run "xdvi foo" in another window. Then if I edited foo.tex and latex-ed it again, the xdvi view was automatically updated. This no longer seems to happen. How to delete/map Activities?

I have plasma set to use 4 desktop activities, one for each virtual desktop. For some reason there are 6 activities (why?) and at each login it can, and occasionally does, happen that a different activity is mapped to a virtual desktop. The configuration will stay for days, even a couple of weeks, and then, all of a sudden one morning when I boot up, an activity will appear on the 'wrong' virtual desktop (not a big problem) and one of the unused activities will appear on a virtual desktop (definitely a nuisance). How can I delete the undesired activities (there is no delete X when I zoom out)? Why does the one appearing on virtual 1, vt 2, etc. keep changing without any action on my part?

Updating F12 Alpha

I had installed F12 alpha couple of weeks back and found it not to be useful for me (no working drivers for NVidia). Now that F12 beta is released, will a "yum update" on the Alpha make it equivalent to Beta+updates (==rawhide?) ? Thanks, Syam

Rearranging icons in the Sytem Tray

The order of icons in the KDE System Tray seems fairly arbitrary. I imagine it depends on the start-up order of the various pieces that the icons correspond to, but I haven't checked. Be that as it may, it would be nice to be able to re-order them, and for KDE to remember the order, the same way one can re-arrange the Panel icons. I can't see an obvious way to do this. Any thoughts? poc

K3B 1.68 and EasyRPM

Hello everybody! I updated K3B using kde-unstable from 1.66 to 1.68 and now, when I try to start it I get (if I start it from the command line, elseway it fails silently) this error and it doesn't start: k3b: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libk3b.so.6: undefined symbol: _ZNK16QAbstractSpinBox16inputMethodQueryEN2Qt16InputMethodQueryE Any clue anyone? No authentication in Systemsetting -> Printer Configuration

Hi, In System Settings -> Printer Configuration I tried to change some Options. This action needs root access, but no authentication pop up box appears. Instead I get: "There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-forbidden'." Using "system-configure-printer" gives an authentication pop up box. I'm running fedora 11, kde 4.3.1-9 (x86_64) Anyone else seeing this? Do I miss a package, have something wrongly configured or is it just a bug? Thanks, Martin Kho

Second qt 4.6 update

Possible problem with qt 4.6.0 and compositing.

Hi All Just a heads up cause I haven't finished my diagnostics. But I suspect that there is a problem with the qt 4.6.9 and kwin compositing.... OBSERVATIONS ------------------ Been playing a full screen game under wine quiet frequently. Now... thankfully I am able to play the game across both my screens (2560x1024) without X crashing. Dunno if its because of improvements with newer versions of NVidia driver, KDE 4.3.2 or because of qt 4.6.0. In any case. The problem is that the game freezes after awhile. Checked to make sure there wasn't some problem because of the screen resolution and reverted back to 1280x1024 the game still froze. Then I checked if the freeze was caused by an update to the video driver so I reverted back to an older version of the driver which I know that the game played without freezing.. But, unfortunately the game froze again. So I completely switched off kde desktop effects (compositing) and no more freezes. I now need to revert back to the older version of qt and see what happens. Until the qt update I have had no freezing. So.... just giving everyone a heads up and will report back here within a day or two. KDE4 print dialog does not have "Range" option

Hello, It seems that KDE4 print dialog does not have the "Range" option that was in KDE 3.5. Under Option, Copies tab, it only has radio button for "Print all" or "Pages from: .. to ..". This is a regression of functionality, since in KDE 3.5, I can for example set and print the pages: 1-3,5,8-11; but not in KDE4. Is this correct or am I missing something ? Is there bug report associated with this missing functionality ? I tried to search but didn't find anything. Thanks. RDB

Is there any way to make GTK apps look nicer by default under KDE?

I just installed fresh Rawhide on a new computer yesterday, and I noticed that under the default configuration, GTK apps look fairly ugly, with grey blocky buttons and UI components and so on. If I install gtk-qt-engine, it initially has an empty space as the selected theme; if I then choose "Clearlooks" as the GTK theme and restart KDE, things look much nicer than whatever default thing was there before. Is it possible to do something in this direction by default? Much as I like KDE, I really can't avoid using Eclipse pretty much every day at work, and it would be nice if it looked good by default. PulseAudio in-/output device confusion

Output devices: PulseAudio Default HDA Intel PulseAudio Sound Server Input devices: PulseAudio Sound Server Default HDA Intel Voilà the devices present on my system and the order of preference for each of in-/output devices. My question: Is this the optimal ordering for PulseAudio for each of in-/output? And why does output have both PulseAudio and PulseAudio Sound Server (is one a vestigial rudiment of an earlier release)? The reason I would like to finally understand this is that I have 2 computers (desk- and laptop) and the priority of preference is often different, or sometimes my laptop tells me that such and such a device does not exist and asks whether I would like to remove it, etc. Often it tells me that PulseAudio is not working, so it will default to PulseAudio Sound Server. Huh? Yes, I see that there are 2 entries, but this is all very, very confusing and I just want to know what the intended order of all these devices is supposed to be, from the perspective of someone who wants to use PulseAudio correctly to achieve optimal sound without glitches and hitches, etc.

How would I install the flash player from an F12-KDE daily release ?

I am thinking of buying a netbook for a project I am working on. I need to find out (in the store) if they have enough grunt to play a YouTube video or a 720 or 1080 HD video file. Some of the netbook processors and video cards are relatively new. Because of this, I need to test them with the F12 live release rather than the early F11 KDE release. Is there an F11-KDE respin live release that includes all of the most recent updates ? If I am running an F12 KDE daily release, how would I go about installing the flash player given that the flash components don't appear to be in the F12 repositories ? Thanks

qt-4.6.0-beta1 coming to kde/unstable

Just a heads up, qt-4.6.0-beta1, our first attempt at packaging 4.6.0, will be pushed to our kde/unstable repos shortly. While it's worked surprisingly well for me during my limited testing, be ready to find/report buglets, and possibly know how to revert if things blow up for you. Enjoy. -- Rex

kpackagekit fails with authentication error in live sessions ?

I know that kpackagekit is undergoing some big changes. I mention the following in case people aren't aware of it. I was unable to install new packages with kpackagekit during both F11-live sessions and f12 rawhide live sessions due to authentication problems. I am in the process of buying a netbook computer for a project. Before I purchase, I want to make sure that it will run various pieces of software and do various things. (transcode video, run YouTube videos, etc.) A live session provides a very convenient way of testing this sort of thing because one needn't install Fedora onto a hard drive, one can easily test multiple machines, etc. However, the live iso doesn't provide all of the packages necessary to do the things I need. I thus attempted to use kpackagekit as a normal user to install several packages during the live sessions. The isos used for these sessions were: kde-i386-20091012.16.iso kde-i386-20091008.15.iso and Fedora-11-i686-Live-KDE.iso However, kpackagekit failed to install any packages at all. With each attempt kpackagekit came to the point where it required authentication to actually install the packages, then displayed an authentication request window and locked up, not allowing the user to authenticate the request. The only way to exit the process was to cancel it and try (unsuccessfully) again. Knowing that one must be superuser in order to install packages using yum, I attempted to run kpackagekit as su from the command line using $kdesu kpackagekit and #kpackagekit. Kpackagekit failed to run at all from these attempts. Thanks for listening.

Amarok 2.2.0 broken?

I just installed amarok-2.2.0-2.fc11.x86_64 from updates and find it essentially borked in that I can't select any music. None of the options in the left-most column (Local Music, Internet, Playlists and Files) are selectable when clicked on. F12 KDE live feedback: extremely smooth and polished !

I ran F12 KDE Live for a couple hours last night. Mostly surfing and doing what I could do without having access to my real data. It wouldn't run properly on my laptop. (HP HDX9494 aka Dragon). It installed fine and it ran OK, but the video on the laptop display was corrupted. You could see the windows and icons, but they were a very dim blue color like you were looking through a snowstorm. This isn't the first time I've had video trouble with Fedora and this machine. I currently have an open bug attributed to another display problem. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=525767 Because of this issue I stopped running F12 on my laptop. I then installed it on my wife's HP laptop, where it ran almost perfectly. F12 looks great. Everything worked perfectly except for what can best be described as a bit of a stutter with kickoff when in classic mode and selecting from various items. All the laptop functionality worked great. Sound, video, wifi, etc. It was all there and without any intervention on my part. We've come a long way, baby ! All in all, I give F12 KDE an A+ from what I saw in my test. I am going to log a bug about the video problem on my laptop.

Text Boxes problem in KWord 2

Anyone here that can do a test and see if they have the same problem as I do? This is my layout http://imagebin.org/66919 The text boxes are linked frames, created and linked in the order I want to use them. When I start typing in the top box, the text starts to appear in the second box instead of the top one. As I finish typing it is copied into all the other boxes. (The text over the top of the picture is my mistake - I forgot to switch the frame resize off - so ignore that problem.) I have spoken to the developers, who say that they can't reproduce this. Program Launcher settings

I would like to be able to set the width and height of the application launcher (menu) pop up box. I recently added a side panel to contain the pager and moved the menu to that panel. Now when the menu pops up it is orientated so that the tabs are arranged vertically on the left side. I like that layout, however the box is now too narrow to display the menu items. That is, for most items, only the first word is completely visible. Does anyone know how to set these values? One thing I notice is that the very first time I use the menu after a reboot the box is wide enough for all of the text of all items are visible. But the next time I use the menu, and for the rest of the session, it is back to "too narrow". Emmett

How to setup dual head?

Hi, I got this new job last week where I have to deal with my university's servers, mostly Solaris but also some Linux. The guys were kind enough set me up a Fedora machine before I moved into the office. But unfortunately they only installed the "Fedora Desktop", i.e. Gnome on it. One of my colleagues told me that they liked KDE 3.5 a lot, but after the KDE 4.0 disaster, nobody was using KDE on the company anymore (see the impacts of certain decisions!). Well, this is not my point. Anyway, I logged in to Gnome and I set up the dual head (spanned desktop) with their tool and it worked right away. Later on, I told my colleagues that KDE improved a lot since 4.0 and they should give a try to 4.3. For a demonstration I installed KDE on my machine. I logged in and the first thing to do was to setup the dual head. I opened System Settings and as soon as I clicked on the Display, X crashed and I was thrown out. It was really a bad experience for a demonstration (kind of like Bill Gates' WinME video). I logged back in and ran krandrtray. This one crashed X too. I clicked on whatever I can find regarding the desktop setup and I found that everything on KDE that is related to the X settings crashes X. I then had to spend 15 minutes to write an xorg.conf file from scratch to make the dual head work, while people were making comments in the lines of "this is why I don't like KDE"... :( So, what was my mistake? This box has an ATI card and has the open source radeon drivers (the proprietary drivers are not available on F-11). Should ATI users stick to F-10 if they want to use KDE, which has only 2 months of lifetime left? I really feel bad. I wanted to show people how cool KDE 4.3 was, but I couldn't. Orcan

Sudden printing problems

I'm trying to find out whether an update has broken something, or there is something wrong here. kdebase-workspace-4.3.1-9.fc11.i586 I've just discovered that both kwrite and kate crash/freeze as soon as I call Print. Just gotta say what a treat it is to be running KDE 4.3.1. Its smooth, fast, nice, powerful, versatile, etc. I am very happy with it, save for a few issues with Konqueror when browsing the web. (Still my fave browser though...) Good work team KDE. Your efforts are appreciated. Aside: for the life of me I cannot figure out why people continue to run Windows. Is it me or is Linux/Fedora/KDE overwhelmingly better than any and all flavors of Windows ? LG

Just curious... How come we went from koffice 2 back down to koffice 1.6 in rawhide today? The new koffice 2 was getting to look pretty good and I was finally almost at the point of switching from OpenOffice, but definitely not to koffice 1.6.

Filelight crashing

Hello I've been using Filelight (from Fedora 11 repos) for some time now and it's been working fine. Recently, I notice that it crashes (always) on startup. Can anybody help me identify what's wrong?
