kded4 crashes randomly

I see occasional crash reports for kded4 (seg fault). This is a recent fresh install of F12 on new system. Seems to run OK otherwise and passes memtest86. Here is what I am running right now: $ rpm -q qt kdelibs qt-4.5.3-9.fc12.x86_64 kdelibs-4.3.4-3.fc12.x86_64 After pressing "restart app" on crash dialog: ps ax | grep kded 2800 ? S 0:00 kded4 --nocrashhandler I am also using "Fedora 12 Updates/Test Updates" and "kde-testing" repos right now. Does this sound OK? Thanks, -gene

Kontact/Akonadi is disastrous on 4.3.85

First kontact would not start at all. This seems to be due to the fact that it was seeking a non-existent folder, /home/anne/.local/share/Local, IIRC. Pointing this to my local mail directory allowed Kontact to start, but I've since been told that that is a bad idea - and I haven't been told what I should do about it. Then I discovered that my addressbook was empty. I replaced the file from a backup, restarted everything, but still couldn't see any addresses. Exploring the Akonadi setup I confirmed that it was pointing to the correct file. In the end I added a new Resource, pointing it to the same file. All my addresses were now visible and I thought I had won. Not so. Today I needed to add a phone number. Edit opened a blank form - none of the existing details showing. You could type into a field, but saving it made no difference. The new item didn't show. Now, some hours later, Edit is working and I can add the phone number. During that time I have kept getting spells of seeing Kontact use more than 50% CPU, forcing the total to 99-100%, so that I had to shut it down. Several times. I can only assume that it's Akonadi trying to organise the data, but it has simply made it unusable. Unless these issues can be resolved there are going to be some major screams. F11 updates failing

I haven't been able to get updates for my F11 netbook for the last few days. I'm seeing lots of lines like kdepimlibs-4.3.4-1.fc11.i586 from installed has depsolving problems --> Unresolvable requirement kdelibs4 >= 4.3.4 for kdepimlibs-4.3.4-1.fc11.i586 (installed) 6:kdemultimedia-4.3.4-1.fc11.i586 from installed has depsolving problems --> Unresolvable requirement kdelibs4 >= 4.3.4 for 6:kdemultimedia-4.3.4-1.fc11.i586 (installed) I've run the suggested tools, cleaned metadata etc., to no avail. Unable to change date/time with KDE SC 4.4 Beta

Hello I've a system that's updated with kde-redhat, kde-unstable and kde-testing repos enabled. I'm unable to change the system date & time (when logged in as a non-root user). The "Date & Time" item in system settings displays the date & time with a warning that "You are not allowed to save the configuration". After changing the date or time setting, the 'Apply' button becomes active and clicking it seems to change the values. But when the configuration item is closed, it again asks to apply changes and when I choose to do so, I get an error message: " Unable to authenticate/execute the action: 4, " It used to work in the older version where I'd be offered to enter the root password to apply the changes. Anything to do with PolicyKit/polkit? Syam

Assuming I were to take the time to tag some files and folders, as well as rate them (the stars) and/or even have comments for these items... Is there a way to back this information up so that it can be restored upon upgrade to rawhide/F13 or to a potential reinstallation of F12 or even to a different distro (were I inclined to want to peruse)?

Amarok won't play sound

F12 fully uodated, including KDE 4.3.4. Sound from mplayer, Flash video etc. all works, but Amarok doesn't. In fact if I play a track the cursor doesn't even advance. The Settings dialogue hasn't been touched since installation. The Sound Config button (which just calls the System Settings panel) works, including the Test button. Sound is configured for PA. The backend is Xine. The console shows a bunch of "QPainter::begin: Cannot paint on a null pixmap" messages, if that matters. poc

PackageKit and "yum install ..." hang

I think this is related to the "kded4" crashing but not sure how. When I try to use KPackageKit to find a package under "Software Management" it now hangs with the message at bottom "waiting on other tesks". If I do a yum install it also hangs after printing "Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit" and can only exit it with kill -9. I think maybe if kpkgkit waits long enough that kded4 finally crashes. So this may be what others see too. But yum hanging was not reported I don't think and I wasn't seeing it earlier. I have tried log off/on, restart X, power off/on and nothing helps. Network connection still good. -gene

KDE SC 4.3.85 for F-11

There's still small problems: Skip-broken could not solve problems Error: Missing Dependency: PyKDE4 >= 4.3.85 is needed by package kdebase-workspace-python-applet-4.3.85-1.fc11.x86_64 (kde-unstable) Error: Missing Dependency: libknotificationitem-1.so.1()(64bit) is needed by package 1:knetworkmanager-0.9-0.3.20090930svn.fc11.x86_64 (installed) I think i can delete knetworkmanager since i dont use it. But PyKDE4 would be nice to have. I guess there's some build problems with it? -- LG Thomas Dubium sapientiae initium

Font weight in kde 4.3.85

Hi, Is it just me or is the default font weight in KDE 4.3.85 a little thinner than it was in previous versions. Do I have to visit an oculist? :-) Martin Kho

kde-4.4-beta2 (4.3.85) for f11

My first batch of kde-4.3.85 builds for f11, will be pushed to kde-unstable repo shortly. One known problem is that kdebindings-4.3.85 fails to build currently, so that's missing right now. :( Enjoy. -- Rex
