Incorrectly sized logoff box
by Dave Ulrick
Hi,
Ever since I went to KDE 4.x on Fedora 10 (I've since upgraded to KDE
4.3.3 on Fedora 11), the box I see when I ask to log off KDE via
<right-click>Leave has looked strange. A large white power-off symbol
(similar to a "U" with a vertical bar in the middle) is superimposed on
top of vertically stacked buttons that read "Logoff", "Turn Off Computer",
and "Restart Computer". On an alternate userid, the box appears to be
twice as wide with the white power-off symbol over to the left of the
stacked buttons. This smells like a corrupted "rc" file of some kind that
contains incorrect window geometry, but my efforts to 'find' or 'grep' for
the appropriate file under ~/.kde/ haven't turned up anything. Any idea
of what I can do to fix this?
Thanks,
Dave

kde-plasma-ihatethecashew-0.4-1.fc11.i586
by Dave Ulrick
Hi,
I've just opened a bug report regarding a new problem with the
ihatethecashew plasmoid:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=550630
I'm running Fedora 11 and KDE 4.3.3 with the latest patches, although I've
rolled back to kernel 2.6.30.9-102 pending shipment of the
nvidia kmod for the new 2.6.30.10-105 kernel.
After installing the kde-plasma-ihatethecashew-0.4-1.fc11.i586 RPM via
kpackagekit's Software Update and rebooting (due to a new kernel), I saw a
message on the KDE desktop that said something about a plasmoid not being
found. I removed the message. Due to a (unrelated?) problem with video
artifacts (missing/incorrect colors), I decided to reboot to the previous
kernel. This resolved my video problem. I then noticed that the
"beloved" cashew was visible at the upper-right of the KDE desktop. I
attempted to add the ihatethecashew widget, but this failed with an error
message:
This object could not be created for the following reason:
Could not find requested
component: ihatethecashew
Any suggestions on how I might proceed to troubleshoot/resolve this
problem?
Thanks,
Dave

Forgive the Dumb Question
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi all
Could somebody please tell me which package contains the copy to & move to context menu items.
I've had the opportunity to install a fresh install of Fedora 12 and for the life of me I can't seem to remember nor recognize the package name.
Thanks

Problem with Update from Fedora 11 to Fedora 12
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi
Bug report already filed at:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=550384
Just performed an upgrade on one of my machines from fedora 11 to 12. The update to kde-filesystem-4-30.fc12.noarch.rpm failed
Yum reported
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/docs/common: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory
I downloaded and tried to install the file manually with the same result. I then deleted:
/usr/share/doc/HTML/de
And tried again with the message:
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/doc/HTML/ru/docs/common: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory
I then removed the folder
/usr/share/doc/HTML/ru
All was well when I tried to install again.

Login after second try
by Martin Kho
Hi,
When I boot into KDE (v. 4.3.85) on rawhide I've to try two times to get in.
This only happens when I boot or restart my computer. Log out/in works okay.
In /var/log/message I see:
Dec 24 10:47:31 ps-1866 kdm: :0[1426]: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable
to open session: Method "OpenSessionWithParameters" with signature "a(sv)" on
interface "org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager" doesn't exist
Dec 24 10:47:31 ps-1866 kdm: :0[1426]: Client start failed
Dec 24 10:47:31 ps-1866 kdm: :0[1426]: Cannot close ConsoleKit session: Unable
to close session: no session open
Dec 24 11:11:04 ps-1866 kdm[2904]: Cannot lock pid file /var/run/kdm/kdm.pid,
another xdm is running (pid 1353)
Does anyone else experience this or do I miss something?
Thanks,
Martin Kho

screensaver question
by Neal Becker
I can get my screen to blank using either of 2 methods.
Either via settings/Screensaver (on the app menu, not system settings menu),
which brings XScreenSaver,
or I could configure this in powerdevil.
Which is preferred? I think the screensaver route is better, because some
players know how to deactivate the screensaver, but don't seem to know about
powerdevil. But, that's yet-another-daemon.
I think this can be confusing.

Fedora 12 spontaneously suspending
by Orion Poplawski
Has anyone here had trouble with F12 spontaneously suspending? Esp. a
couple minutes after coming out of suspend. I have a couple users with
this issue, and I haven't been able to figure out what is triggering it.

beatify [sic] :-)) notes & weather/opendesktop plasmoids
by Petrus de Calguarium
1. Is there a way to beautify the notes plasmoid?
All of the plasmoids have nice edges with rounded corners and pleasant shadows, but
notes is all crooked, has no edging and no shadows. It simply does not harmonize with
the other plasmoids at all and looks ugly alongside other plasmoids on the desktop.
2. Also, when speaking of plasmoids and aesthetics:
The weather forecast plasmoid (neither yawp nor the lcd one) has the buttons mixed
up, showing a button to press on the page that is shown and showing a depressed
button on the page that one needs to click to, ie., they are backwards.
The opendesktop plasmoid, the first of the two, makes the identical error, of using
the depressed button for the page that is to be clicked on and the clickable button
for the page that is actually being displayed -- again, the buttons are reversed.

Rawhide performance tracker
by Gerwin Krist -|- Digitalus Webhosting & Webdesign
Hi guys,
It's a little bit offtopic but in-directly it's related to KDE it's
performance though :-)
But it seems that they guys on phoronix are monitoring fedora 13
(rawhide) perfomance
on a daily base now.
You can read more on
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzgzNQ
and http://www.phoromatic.com/fedora-tracker.php
I'm curious for the results as F13 is evolving ....
