A much improved menu layout
by Petrus de Calguarium
I noticed that the menu is improved, as of about a day or 2 ago.
No longer are system setup and system apps separate (I no longer recall the original
names), and the user apps category (I no longer recall original name) is now just
called accessories.
This is much clearer, more intuitive and easier to find programs. I am not sure if
any went missing, but I do notice that those awkward and useless sub-categories of
other programs under each main heading (again, I cannot recall what they were called)
are now gone. Hopefully, the programs formerly thereunder are now integrated into the
main headings.

kmix not working with pulseaudio for some systems
by Roderick Johnstone
Hi
So far I've got Fedora 12 running on some (x86_64) systems with two
different sound cards. For the ones with sound card A kmix is able to
control the volume. For the ones with sound card B kmix is unable to
control the volume.
I'd like some help in getting kmix to work with system B please.
Here are some details...
linux A> cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Live ]: EMU10K1 - SB Live! 5.1 [SB0220]
SB Live! 5.1 [SB0220] (rev.10, serial:0x100a1102)
at 0xac00, irq 18
linux B> cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Audigy2 ]: Audigy2 - SB Audigy 4 [SB0610]
SB Audigy 4 [SB0610] (rev.0, serial:0x10211102)
at 0x1000, irq 18
System settings / Multimedia shows that both systems are using
Pulseaudio for the Output device (hovering over this displays "xine
audio output plugin using pulseaudio sound server).
To get audible sound, in pavucontrol I have to set:
system A requires the Configuration tab to have the profile set to
"Analogue Stereo Duplex"
system B requires the Configuration tab to have the profile set to
"Digital Stereo (IEC958) output + Analog Stereo input"
For system A kmix can control the volume.
For system B I cannot get kmix to control the volume; nothing happen
when I change the sliders.
Can anyone suggest how to make kmix control volume on system B.
Thanks
Roderick

K3b update question
by Anne Wilson
What is the significance of these lines?
Non-fatal POSTUN scriptlet failure in rpm package k3b-libs
and
warning: %postun(k3b-libs-1:1.68.0-2.fc11.i586) scriptlet failed, exit status
1
Is there something that I will need to do at some point to compensate for this
error?

Background color issue
by Orion Poplawski
I've been upgrading machines here at work to Fedora 12. Today puzzle -
user's plasma/widgets color scheme appears to be black on black.
Calendar, power settings, task bar popups are unreadable. Regular
windows are fine. Any idea what might be causing this? Video card is
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility HD 3670 [1002:9593], using stock
Fedora drivers.
Also, clicking on the clock brings up two calendars, one stacked on top
of another. No idea how to get rid of the extra one.
Thanks.

KPilot RIP
by Anne Wilson
KPilot has been without a maintainer for a long time, and it has been decided
to officially declare it dead, unless someone steps up to help.
If you have a Palm device and would be interested in helping out, please
contact the developer mailing list (kde-devel(a)kde.org). It's likely that
someone could guide you through a bug-fix or two, before you commit to being
maintainer, and your contribution would be sincerely welcomed.

problems with authentication
by José Abílio Matos
Hi,
I am having problems with authentication on kde after Tuesday updates,
there were several so I am unsure about the culprit.
I have kde-* active as well as fedora-updates-testing. From Tuesday updates I
have reverted hal.
The problem comes when using kmail or konqueror. On konqueror any secure page
access fails, i.e., on any page that requires a password the authentication
will fail regardless of the fact that the password is correct.
On kmail the problem is less acute (well annoying is more the right word), as
on every time that I send a message it complains that the smtp certificates
are unknown. If I ask for them to be accepted for ever it will send the
message but next time I send the message I will receive the same information
and the same request.

akonadi problems with F12 clean install
by Christos Lazaridis
Hi,
I've been having major trouble trying to make akonadi work on a clean
F12 install.
I've managed to fix some of the issue as mysql-server and qt mysql driver were
not installed by default.
Now, I get an error at the MySql server logs:
> Can't open and lock privilege tables: Table 'mysql.servers' doesn't exist
I tried this
http://userbase.kde.org/Akonadi#Table_.27mysql._servers.27_doesn.27t_exist
but did not work; also, I get a "no resource agents found" error.
Any pointers on how to proceed?
thanks,
Christos.

No restart after 'critical' update
by Martin Kho
Hi,
After a 'critical' update - via update manager (kpackagekit) - is installed a
notification pop up tells that a restart is necessary. You can chose between:
"Restart" or "Not Now". When choosing "Restart" nothing happens. This is in
Fedora 12 (kpackagekit-0.5.1.1-1.fc12.x86_64)
Anyone else have seen this?

kdelibs-experimental?
by Petrus de Calguarium
I notice that kdelibs-experimental is not in 4.3.4
as it presently appears in kde-redhat repo.
Is it discontinued, and if so, can I safely
uninstall kdelibs-experimental-4.3.3, or should I
leave it?
