Viewing attachments in KMail
by Anne Wilson
Re-sending - as no-one replied, and the problem is a big one for me -
I don't recall having this problem until recently, but suddenly I have problem
with viewing attachments. An attached .pdf, for instance, tells me
Unable to run the command specified. The file or folder file:// does not
exist.
What could be causing this? It's not file associations - I checked that. It
seems that whether the attachment is a .pdf or a .wmv, I am offered a context
menu more suited to a URL.

KDE Desktop Search on F12 ?
by Reuben D. Budiardja
Hello,
I am interested in having a desktop search of some kind and has been looking
at what KDE has. I've been browsing on Nepomuk, Strigi, Virtuoso, Soprano, and
I am bit lost as to what is available right now.
So I am wondering if someone can tell me what's available now (working, beta,
etc), and what I need to do to have this. Few more specific questions:
1. I try to go to System-Settings -> Advance Settings --> Desktop Search. A
dialog with title "Nepomuk Server not running -- System Settings" shows up,
freeze for a while (no text inside it), and the the text shows up : "The
Nepomuk Server is not running. The settings will be used the next time the
server is started.". How do I start the Nepomuk Server ?
I did check the "Enable Nepomuk... " and "Enable Strigi.. " checkboxes.
2. How do I use the indexed file ? How do I Search it ? will it be able to show
email, chat history, etc ? Does Dolphin for example use this indexing when I
do Find Files --> Content [tab] ? (right now it seems that I can use that but
I am not sure how Dolphin does the search itself if the Nepomuk / Strigi is
not yet enabled).
Thanks for any help

I just fixed the bug Anne reported where using the month view as the initial
view in KOrganizer caused things not to work. You might want to
report this back to your distro so they can patch kdepim.
The relevant revisions are
trunk => r1059603
4.3 branch => r1059605
Note that this seems to be a change in a behavior for recent versions of Qt,
probably version 4.6.0

Icon categories disappear in Menu Editor
by Reuben D. Budiardja
Hello,
If I open menu editor, and click on the icon for an item, usually it shows up
with a "Select Icon" dialog, and option for "System icons" and "Other icons".
On the "System icons" line, there's usually drop-down categories such as:
Application, Action, etc.
For some reason, this afternoon when I try to edit the menu, the drop-down
category does not show anything, i.e. the drop down is still there but there
is no options for the categories.
If I right click on the Kick Off itself, then click "Application Launcher
Settings" and click on Icon, the categories for System Icon is still there.
How do I fix the missing categories ?
Thanks.

Really Slow Navigating Files
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi Guys
I'm still using Fedora 11 (x86_64) with Nvidia proprietary drivers from Livna.
Suddenly, I've noticed a major slowdown when trying to naviagte folders with a large number of files and folders contained within. I was wondering if anyone else noticed that.
I was also wondering if this was related in anyway to the slowness discussed a little while back regarding F12 and
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=533620
Thanks for any input.

KDE 4.3.75 rather unresponsive
by Martin Kho
Hi,
I'm using this version of kde for a while now, and experience in a lot of apps
more or less severe slowness (e.g. dolhin, kmail, system settings). In
.xsession-errors the following error appears many times:
mmap failed for "/var/tmp/kdecache-martin/kpc/kde-icon-cache.index"
A few weeks ago a similar issue was discussed in [1], causing slowness. It
looks like it's somehow related to qt-4.6. The only bug report I could find is
[2], but that related to a crash. I don't have any crashes.
Does anyone else see slowness when using qt-4.6?

newer phonon pkgs coming to kde-testing
by Rex Dieter
I'll be dropping newer phonon-4.3.50-based packages into kde-testing
soon. These have been in -unstable for awhile, and by all accounts,
should be better.
These include the new pulseaudio-integration done by colin
guthrie/mandriva.
Along with phonon, the f12 repo, will include a newer
pulseaudio-module-x11 package, which includes the device-manager pa
module for enhanced enumeration of pa backend devices (with it, you'll
get to see/specify the hardware pa is talking to, not just
"PulseAudio"). See also,

Changing default email client system wide in kde
by Roderick Johnstone
Hi
I'd like to change the default email client in kde from kmail to
thunderbird.
I can change it for my pown account by using system settings / Default
applications, and it seems to add a file emaildefaults in my .kde tree,
but I'd like to be able to change it system-wide for all my users.
Copying that emaildefaults to /usr/share/config doesnt seem to work.
Can anyone suggest the correct way to effect this change of email client
please.
Thanks

kate missing on kde 4.3.3 x86_64
by Jeremy Sanders
Hi - I've upgrade to KDE 4.3.3 and to Fedora 12 (x86_64).
Does anyone know why the kate editor appears to be missing? I can't see any
obvious package which should supply it.

F12 Glitchy on Activating Window border (Raise / Focus) w/ Nvidia driver
by Reuben D. Budiardja
Hello,
I have a fresh install of F12. I use the Nvidia proprietary driver because I
have to run some 3D visualization software. I use this proposed fix for the
Xorg due to the reported problem with KDE:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=142860
I have compositing enabled.
Everything seems to work fine, except some glitch on window border when it's
activated. I have "Focus follow mouse" set. When my mouse hover to a window
behind another window, the focus suppose to follow that mouse (and it does),
and change the color or that Window's border to indicate it's now the active
window. In a lot of cases, the newly active Window's border is either:
1. Not changed to active, or there are some delays before it gets changed,
although the focus does seem to react immediately according to my preset delay
time (e.g. I can immediately type on the supposedly active window)
2. The color change to active but has some glitch, some of the old inactive
color remains and it gets mixed
3. The color of the newly active windows changes, but the color of the
supposedly inactive windows remains "active", so now according to the window
border color I seems to I have two active windows.
Disabling compositing seems to remove this problem. Has anyone else seen this
? Is this related to the aforementioned problem of KDE + proprietary Nvidia
driver ?
Thanks.
