Desktop Themes
by Anne Wilson
I've not used desktop themes particularly in the past, but in 4.2 I really
dislike the heavy black panel, so that caused me to experiment. I was
surprised, though, at what I found.
On my Mandriva laptop, installing the Naked theme gave me widget transparency,
although the handles still remain black. The panel is semi-transparent.
Overall the look is very pleasing.
On my Fedora 10 netbook, the same theme gives me different results. Widgets
are again transparent, but this time the handles are transparent too. The
panel, however, remains hideously black.
Why does the theme display differently on different distros? Is it possible to
adapt the theme so that I can get a transparent panel?

KMail replies don't quote
by Anne Wilson
I used the F10 netbook all day yesterday and KMail was working then. Now,
hitting Reply brings up a compose screen, but it does not quote anything.
Even if you highlight test, nothing is quoted.
Rex - do you want bug reports for this and the konqueror issue?

4.2 - no sound
by Paul Scott
Hi,
I'm having a problem with sound since the updates that appeared at the end of
last week in kde-testing. I upgraded my Fedora 10 to 4.2 early last week and
found that it was very stable - everything worked (including sound).
Since an update on the 30th which included phonon-4.3.0-4.fc10.x86_64, phonon-
backend-xine-4.3.0-4.fc10.x86_64 and phonon-devel-4.3.0-4.fc10.x86_64 - I've
got no sound at all from my system.
Pulseaudio is running. I've checked perms under /dev. I've got the following
when running pulseaudio -vvv and executing 'paplay something.wav' :
I: protocol-native.c: Connection died.
I: module-suspend-on-idle.c: Source
alsa_output.pci_8086_293e_sound_card_0_alsa_playback_0.monitor idle for too
long, suspending ...
I: module-suspend-on-idle.c: Sink
alsa_output.pci_8086_293e_sound_card_0_alsa_playback_0 idle for too long,
suspending ...
I: module-alsa-sink.c: Device suspended...
I: module-suspend-on-idle.c: Source
alsa_input.pci_8086_293e_sound_card_0_alsa_capture_0 idle for too long,
suspending ...
I: module-alsa-source.c: Device suspended...
but I'm not certain if they are errors or not.
I've tried testing the output devices under Multimedia System Settings - no
errors reported, but still no sound.
I've gone through the troubleshooting steps at
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/SoundTroubleshooting but am none the wiser.
Anyone else experiencing a problem? Any suggestions as to what to check next?
Thanks!
Paul.

debuginfo packages
by Clive Messer
Can anyone tell me where to find the kde-redhat debuginfo packages? I'm trying
to track down a bug with Amarok not saving the playlist when closing. Looking
for debuginfo package for kdelibs-4.2.0-7.fc10.x86_64.
Regards

I should have said in my first email that I have done that already - still no
change:
phonon-4.3.0-5.fc10.x86_64
phonon-backend-xine-4.3.0-5.fc10.x86_64
phonon-devel-4.3.0-5.fc10.x86_64

OK... I found the culprit... It turns out that the "Mirror Search" plugin is
turned on by default. This seems to delay the download.
