nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

Dolphin partition names
by Roderick Johnstone
Hi
Fedora 12, x86_64, kde 4.4.5.
I have some unmounted partitions which show up in the Places pane in
Dolphin labelled with their volume label.
I changed the volume label, but Dolphin still shows them with the old label.
I tried logging out and in again but the partitions still show with the
old volume labels.
Any suggestions as to how I get Dolphin to show these partitions with
the new volume labels??
Thanks
Roderick

kde-4.5.2 for f13 (and f12)
by Rex Dieter
Official kde-4.5.2 f13 updates have been prepped and built, and are now
in our kde-testing repos. These will be queue'd for official
updates-testing soon. See also,
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2010-October/144532.html
*UN*official kde-4.5.2 f12 updates have also been done. The main
difference between prior builds as that this latest batch has been done
on fedora's buildsys(koji), so we're also able to provide ppc builds as
well.
In order to make this initial kde-4.5 update process faster and
smoother, we (I) choose not to include anything qt-4.7-related yet.
That will come later, we promise. :)
so, as usual, test test test, feedback feedback feedback, and enjoy.

Microblogging plasmoid not working
by Rolf Offermanns
Hi All,
on F13 running KDE-4.5.2 I am not able to get the Microblogging plasmoid
to show my Twitter timeline (or anything else from Twitter).
I started the plasmoid in the plasmoidviewer and get the following
output on the console:
plasmoidviewer(5102): Hashing algo not supported, update your QCA
The plasmoid works fine on my Ubuntu system.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rolf

= Summary =
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
kde-4.5.2/f13 status
* qt-4.7.x for f13 decision weighed heavily by qtwebkit maintainance
* qt-4.7.1 should be released soon (rumors)
KPackageKit-0.6.2+ , UI changes, app-install, etc
*0.6.2 changes UI and needs app-install support in PK
* it should be possible to install individual packages, but applications are
shown on the top
* SMParrish to talk to upstream maintainers to get more info
** agreed to skip 0.6.2 for now

** AGREED: nucleo kdenetwork acls approved
recent bugs
* nucleo to apply for konq-plugins acl's, and help apply patch to fix bug

New optional build dependency for KDE trunk: hupnp
by Eike Hein
Just a quick notice that Solid in KDE trunk has gained a new optional
build dependency that Fedora currently doesn't carry: hupnp, used by
the UPnP backend.
Given that it's Fedora policy to try and cater to KDE development by
providing the dependencies, that might be nice to add.
On another note, I've noticed that kdeplasma-addons doesn't have a
build dependency on scim-devel, which is one of the backends used by
the kimpanel plasmoid. Is that intentional? (I'm fairly clueless about
kimpanel, I just noticed the missing dep on CMake output after doing
yum-builddep for kdeplasma-addons.)

HEADS UP: KDE/Qt update intentions in Fedora 13 (RFC)
by Jaroslav Reznik
Hi (from the evil KDE SIG;-),
we're going to update KDE Plasma Workspaces in Fedora 13 to 4.5.x series. It
took some time but we're now pretty sure that it's in a good condition.
The question is (we agreed on KDE SIG meeting yesterday) - should we update Qt
to 4.7 too or build KDE stack with current 4.6 series? As there are a few Qt
packages outside of KDE SIG/Qt maintainers scope, we'd like to hear any
objections against update - bugs we can fix etc. Qt 4.7 is quite well tested,
thanks to work on Fedora 14 (Qt 4.7 is already included) and a lot of users are
actually using this combination in Fedora 13.
If I put on my Fedora WebKit SIG hat - there are two big +++ for update:
1. newer QtWebKit makes browser's user experiences much more better
2. it's going to be much more easier to backport security issues to Fedora 13
and we care of security issues - WebKit can be quite vulnerable...
Most changes in Qt 4.7 are in mobile development area and new features like Qt
Quick.
On the other hand, it could slow down KDE update and it will need more rebuilds.
Is it worth? Any objections from Qt devels? Please comment...
Jaroslav

reusing mount points
by Dj YB
Hello,
when plugging in a USB device it is automounted, all good.
however sometimes the mount point (e.g /media/usb-device) is not deleted,
usually when there was no proper unmount.
then when I insert the same device again it is mounted in a new mount point
(e.g /media/usb-device-1)
my question is, is there a way to force using the same mount point even if the
directory already exists?
Thanks in advance,
YB.
