Rkward needs to be updated
by Stefan Grosse
Hi,
There is a new R version in updates-testing:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/rpy-2.1.7-1.fc14,R-2.12.0-1.fc14
Rkward refused to work with R after the update and returns
"Warnmeldung:
In library() : Library ‘/usr/share/R/library’ enthält keine Pakete
M <- 10000
Fehler: unprotect(): nur 1 geschützte Elemente"
It is not R itself because emacs and console work as expected.
There is a new Rkward version upstream that hopefully deals with this
problem.
Do you need me to open a bugreport or is it OK just to drop this mail?
Regards
Stefan

[PATCH] Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop rebranding
by Jaroslav Reznik
Hi,
I prepared patch rebranding KDE to KDE Plasma and fixing "K Desktop Environment"
pre-historic relic. But I'm not sure how to deal with referencing KDE in spins
list - use KDE Plasma? And how to reference it from code + directory etc.,
hostname etc. See ticket #27.
I'm not familiar (yet) with websites infrastructure but I'd like to take
maintainership of KDE/Plasma related web pages (and not to break something :).
Thanks for help,
Jaroslav

Preupgrade F13 x86_64 -> F14 x86_64 KDE Fails
by George Galt
All:
I have just tried moving to Fedora 14 x86_64 using preupgrade. Upon
launch of the new system, KDE is virtually non-responsive (I can get
some response initially, but it quickly fades). Mouse pointer moves,
but clicks do not seem to do anything.
If I relaunch in KDE safemode, all seems well. Where should I start
looking? Xorg.0.log shows no errors. Messages carries the following
(which I don't think is relevant): Nov 4 11:33:33 george
NetworkManager[1127]: <error> [1288884813.510342] [nm-manager.c:1331]
user_proxy_init(): could not init user settings proxy: (3) Could not
get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManagerUserSettings': no
such name
The only other anomaly was that the lower right-hand portion of the
screen showed a flickering white bar just to the left of the plasma
bar. In addition, when I used alt-tab to switch between apps (during
a brief period of responsiveness), one of the applications displayed
was "plasma-desktop", which I had never seen before.
I do use the proprietary nvidia graphics driver from ATRPMs, not the
nouveau driver (though, again Xorg says this was loaded just fine).
Any help or thoughts of where to look would be helpful.
George

Thoughts on merging KDE into Qt and Is "Linux" slowing down ?
by linux guy
I know that developers have nothing better to do (wink) so I thought I
would mention that I'd love to hear (see) a discussion of what the
Fedora people think of KDE being merged into Qt.
And, on another slant, is it me or is the pace of "Linux" development
slowing down now that KDE4.x is becoming somewhat mature ? Where do
things go from here ?
Thanks !

after the update to 4.5.2, systems settings
is no longer visible in kicker on my machine.
it is searchable, and movable (w/ menu edior)
but moving it does not make it visible in kicker.

Fedora KDE Live Media installer still not available in non-english language
by Christian González
One year ago I've reported bug #541055 "Anaconda "Select language"
screen is not available from F12 KDE LiveMedia". After two mayor
releases, this bug is still present and non-english-speaking users are
forced to use "liveinst --lang=xx" to get a translated Anaconda.
It seems than Anaconda developers don't want to make changes juts for
us. I'm quoting: "anaconda's not going to start growing warts for
dealing with specific livecd quirks". So if this is going to be fixed,
the fix should came from KDE SIG.
Kevin suggested this: "to wrap liveinst with a kdialog --menu based
script". Can we consideer this option in time for Fedora 15? As a
non-english user it's hard to promote Fedora KDE Live Media between my
friends and coworkers without a proper Spanish installator (even if
Anaconda *is* already translated).

Default KDE Kicker Icon Missing from Oxygen Theme
by Gerald B. Cox
I had this problem a few years ago and reported in bug 442194. The
workaround described in that bug isn't working.
After upgrade to Fedora 14, it appears the Fedora Infinity icon is default
now for both the standard Oxygen theme.
Has anyone else noticed this, should I open a bug or am I missing something?
Thanks!
