nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

Nepomuk/Strigi issue(?): files re-indexed after reboot
by Steven P. Ulrick
Hello Everyone
I apologize if this has already been covered. If it has, I haven't
seen it.
My issue is that I rebooted my Fedora 12 system recently. Nepomuk
started up just like it is supposed to. Unfortunately, the Nepomuk status
window said that something like 6,000 to 7,000 files had been indexed. I
checked my music collection, and sure enough, the mp3's that I checked were
not showing metadata in the expected location in Dolphin. So, it looks
like for some reason, Nepomuk started re-indexing my files.
That was the bad part. This is a kind of odd part: before I had over
25,000 files indexed, and the size of my Nepomuk Store was 3.2 GiB. So, I
rebooted, Nepomuk started re-indexing my files, BUT the Store size was
still 3.2 GiB. So I "assume" that my database had not been destroyed, but
Nepomuk just started re-indexing my files for some reason... Also, like I
said earlier, the metadata that had been displayed in Dolphin before I
rebooted was gone after I booted back up. But, my Store size was still the
same...
Anyway, has anyone else had this issue? I will attempt to look for bug
reports to attach my comments to. If I don't find any, please let me know
the exact component to file this particular issue under.

do you miss amarok-1.4?
by Orcan Ogetbil
Hi all,
For those of you who miss amarok-1.4 and keeps getting disappointed
with every amarok-2 version, now there is a qt4 port of amarok-1.4. It
is called clementine:
http://code.google.com/p/clementine-player/
Upstream provides Fedora rpm's. You might want to check it out, it is
really nice.
However it is not straightforward to package clementine. It bundles
some libraries which are not available in Fedora. In particular there
is qxt and qtsingleapplication we need to package.
I submitted a review request for the former one:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=577601
I won't have much time until summer for packaging, so it might take a
while until clementine gets packaged, unless of course you want to
help with packaging/comaintaining etc.
Cheers,
Orcan

Switching folders in KMail takes a while?
by Martin Kho
Hi,
When I for the first time switch in KMail from one folder to another it takes a
few seconds before the content is shown. Switching again to another folder
doesn't have this delay. In .xsession-errors I get:
[akonadiserver] Error during executing query "SELECT PimItemTable.id,
PimItemTable.rev, PimItemTable.remoteId, MimeTypeTable.name,
ResourceTable.name, PimItemTable.size, PimItemTable.datetime,
PimItemTable.collectionId FROM PimItemTable, MimeTypeTable, CollectionTable,
ResourceTable WHERE ( PimItemTable.mimeTypeId = MimeTypeTable.id AND
PimItemTable.collectionId = CollectionTable.id AND CollectionTable.resourceId
= ResourceTable.id AND ( PimItemTable.id = :0 ) ) ORDER BY PimItemTable.id
ASC" : "MySQL server has gone away QMYSQL: Unable to execute query"
This happens on a full updated F12 system (kde 4.4.1, KMail: 1.13.1).
Any one else have seen this behaviour?

Weather app
by Temlakos
Does KDE have any sort of app that provides a detailed twenty-four-hour
forecast and radar weather map, as the Gnome weather app does?
From the KDE weather app (which I have to switch to an empty desktop in
order to view), I can get the current temperature and conditions, and a
six-day forecast. But what I can't get is a today-tonight-tomorrow
forecast, or any sort of weather map.
What am I missing?

[SOLVED] errors during akonadi start
by Maurizio Marini
I would notify to other "peones" that like me are struggling to get akonadi
working with nepomukserver, I have not any error messages when akonadi starts,
i have changed into
~/.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc
Used Soprano Backend=redland
with:
Used Soprano Backend=virtuosobackend
i think that this change was missed by automatic scripts migration to kde 4.4

address book problems
by John Aldrich
Running Fedora 11, KDE 4.4.0, and KMail 1.13.0. I'm having problems getting
new addresses entered into the address book. Akonadi *IS* running,
according to "akonadictl status" but it seems to refuse to save new address
book entries. What's going on here?
HELP!!!
