Re: F13: KDE crashes with OpenGL effects turned on, Intel graphics
by Thomas Ritter
Today there was an update for KDE (4.2.2) and x.org (1.8 final I think) and I tried to enable OpenGL again to see if the bug still exists.
The effects work when I enable them, as long as I don't start certain apps it looks OK. I then tried to start firefox using KRunner (Alt+F2) and it crashed (it went blank and then took me to the kdm login screen), from the ~/.xsession-errors I got:
<snip>
kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/bin/firefox
kaccess: Fatal IO error: client killed
kglobalaccel: Fatal IO error: clientkwalletd: Fatal IO error: client killed
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
XIO: fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0.0"
after 20 requests (8 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
rtkde: Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation.
</snip>
X crashes if I start konqueror or systemsettings, too.
Should I report this to bugzilla.redhat.com?

set timezone?

Why won't system settings allow me to change time zones? It says 'You will
be asked to authenticate', but it doesn't let me. The apply button is

closed task manager
by John Aldrich
I closed the task manager toolbar and now I can't seem to get it back. I
want to see the network status, etc in the toolbar, but that particular
thing is gone. I can see minimized/active windows, the Fedora button, etc,
but that's it. The network, and place where I had KSensors is missing now.
What do I need to do to bring it back?
Thanks

New login does not have battery monitor
by Orion Poplawski
If I log in with a new user on a laptop, I don't get a battery monitor
on my panel. Is that expected? How can I enable that?
Thanks.

It's a clean install, I didn't add any plasmoids.

OK, I could wait for the KDE 4.2.2 packages, but it could also be a x.org error. I'd like to know if there are logs I could check, any hints?

Thomas

No screen in attempted install
by Anne Wilson
I've never met this problem before, and am at a loss as to how to tackle it.
This is on a new laptop, suitably partitioned, ready for an install.
Attempt 1 - Fedora 12 DVD. Spins up, text messages whizz past, screen goes
blank, disk stops spinning - and nothing happens.
Attempt 2 - Fedora KDE Live CD - Spins up, text messages whizz past, screen
goes blank, the disk continues to spin. Eventually the startup sound is heard
- but there is still nothing on screen.
Any suggestions?
Anne
