No more Fedora 13 on Toshiba laptop!
by Anne Wilson
Without any warning or obvious reason, Fedora has ceased to function. I
cannot get any graphical login. kdm.log has huge numbers of lines like
intel_bufmgr_gem.c:1043:Error mapping buffer 40639 (pixmap): Cannot allocate
memory
intel_bufmgr_gem.c:962:Error mapping buffer 40968 (surface_state)): Cannot
allocate memory.
messages contains the line "kdm: :0[2287]: Fatal X server IO error:
interrupted system call.
I checked that the last kernel is also affected, and tried xfce, which has the
same result as a kde session.
I did install some packages a couple of days earlier, but I've been away from
the internet for several days, so there was nothing newly installed when this
happened. Googling didn't show me anything helpful. Any ideas? I'll tinker
with the system rescue from the DVD this afternoon - of course I didn't have
it with me when all this happened.

Fedora 14α not compositing
by Petrus de Calguarium
I installed F14α to a spare partition using the KDE live CD. All went well, but I am
unable to enable Desktop Effects.
I have tried setting setting functionality checks both on and off, to no avail. A
message stating:
"Desktop effects are not available on this system due to the following technical
issues:"
always appears on the effects configuration page in systemsettings, but no reason is
given. When I try to resume compositing, either with the button or with shift-alt-f12, a
notification message states that another application has disabled desktop effects, but
there never is mention of which application, nor why.
I should also mention that the "All Effects" page listing of available effects is
completely blank.
I have exactly the same setup in f13 and all works just fine, but the same programs
installed in f14α don't work.

No 'thunderstorm-icon' in kde-plasma-yawp?
by Martin Kho
Hi,
When thunderstorm is upcoming, in fc13 yawp shows a nice icon, but in rawhide
(fc15) this icon is not visible (absent?). In both fc13 and rawhide yawn
version 0.3.4 (from fedora repo's) is installed.
Did anyone else have seen this?

power-off menu configuration?
by Richard Z
Hi,
on F12 & KDE I have the "logout menu" action configured for the powerbutton.
Where can I configure that menu? I would like to add "suspend to RAM" option to it.
Thanks

4.5sc released, now what?
by Neal Becker
What is the plan going foward? Will 4.5 update be available for f13?
Anything ready for beta testing (i.e., probably stable enough to try on a
machine I actually care about)?

Call for testers: choqok
by Sven Lankes
The current release of the choqok microblogging client that is in fedora
doesn't support oauth authentication which is going to become mandatory
for twitter access on monday.
I have prepared packages that update choqok to a svn snapshot but those
aren't very well tested at the moment. Before pushing these to
updates-testing I'd appreciate feedback on the new build.
If you're running kde-unstable then just update / yum install choqok and
you'll get choqok-0.9.85-0.1.1162196svn - which is the snapshot.
If you're not running kde-unstable then koji builds are available:
F14: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=189965
F13: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=189966
F12: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=189967
Using the above builds you'll also need to install the new dependencies
qoauth, qjson and webkitpart. Downloading the choqok and choqok-libs
rpms and then doing a "yum localinstall --nogpgcheck choqok*.rpm" is
proabably the easiest way to get this installed.
So if you're a choqok user please test this if possible - timely
feedback at least gives us a slight chance to have something in
updates-testing when twitter disables the old way of accessing it on
monday.

KMail/KAddressBook and mailing lists
by Timothy Murphy
What is the current position with mailing lists in KMail?
I'm running KMail-4.4.5 under Fedora-13,
In KMail, Folder/Mailing List Management is greyed out,
but Message/New Message to Mailing-List is alive.
So how is one meant to create a Mailing-List
to send a message to?
