Howto disable Nepomuk-Warning?
by Clemens Eisserer
Hi,
Since the last KDE update, every time KDE starts up I get a Dialog
warning me that Nepomuk is not functional.
I don't care about Nepomuk/Akonadi, but is there any way to get rid of
that dialog? ;)
Thank you in advance, Clemens

F14 Beta RC3 KDE desktop validation PASS
by Adam Williamson
Happy to report that the KDE desktop passes validation for Fedora 14
Beta RC3. jreznik has a problem with sound on his tests but we're fairly
sure that's specific to his machine; other than that, all Alpha and Beta
tests pass. Thank you KDE team!
With this, all desktops pass (or provisionally pass) desktop validation
for the release.

F14 Beta RC3 images available for validation testing!
by Adam Williamson
Hi, everyone. Fedora 14 Beta RC3 images - that's the third (and
hopefully final) release candidate for F14 Beta - are now available for
testing here:
http://serverbeach1.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/14-Beta.RC3/
aside from anaconda fixes, the backgrounds are now present in LXDE and
XFCE, and LXDE initializes ConsoleKit correctly, fixing several major
issues. I've tested that each of these boots to a desktop successfully,
so they're not DOA, you won't be wasting your time to download them.
Please, if you have some time, help fill out the test matrix here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_14_Beta_RC3_Desktop
just click on a test name, follow the steps, and enter your result in
the table (there's a key explaining how to put the results in the
table). Even if someone else has done a test, you can add your result:
the table will handle this and we can have more confidence with many
results than with one. Even if you can only do one or two tests, it's
useful! We have to have the table filled out (at least with the Alpha
and Beta tests) to go ahead and release the Beta. The go/no-go meeting
is on Wednesday afternoon US time, so results need to be in by then for
the Beta. Thanks a lot, everyone!

Fedora 14 Beta RC2 (inc. live) available for desktop testing
by Adam Williamson
Hey, everyone. So, it's time for pre-release testing again!
I know this didn't work perfectly for Alpha, but I've got together with
releng and tightened up processes and it should be better for Beta. So:
right now, here:
http://serverbeach1.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/14-Beta.RC2/Live/
you will find live images for all of the desktop spins (KDE, XFCE, LXDE,
Desktop) for RC2 of Fedora 14 Beta. I have tested them, and all four at
least boot in a VM, so they're not completely broken like some of the
Alpha images :) I also tested KDE and Desktop on bare metal, and I think
Christoph has LXDE booted on bare metal right now, so we're pretty sure
these are working at a basic level. You won't be wasting a download :)
So with these spins we need to fill out these tables:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Current_Desktop_Test
As you can see, I've made a start on this already, but there's many
tests to fill out. We absolutely need to fill out all the Alpha and Beta
tests for each spin. It would be great to also do the Final tests, as
this gives us a head start on identifying and fixing blocker issues for
the final release.
If people could do some of these tests over the next few days (by
Wednesday) that would be awesome. Also note that I'm running a session
at FUDCon Zurich this afternoon where we'll hopefully be able to get
together and fill out some of the table, so if you're at FUDCon, come
out to my session at 2pm :)

Request for Help - Bug 633712
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi Guys
I'm stumped... Nothing new these days. So I'm asking for any help if I my?
I was alerted to a problem with kde-plasma-translatoid a short while ago, that I can't figure out. It seems that under certain
networking conditions the plasmoid does not communicate with google translate properly. Either the request for a
translation is never sent or is not received. I do not know which. But the jist of it all is that kde-plasma-translatoid does not
translate. I tried with the translator that I can install with google-gadgets with the same symptoms.
I've run into the same problem at work while at home there is absolutely no problem.
I've eliminated the firewall at work by giving the computer that I'm running on full permission for all incoming and outgoing
traffic (temporarily for the purpose of testing). I've also tested a different IP from a completely different carrier (backup
ineternet connection) to see if the somehow google was blocking the IP. Same results.
If anyone can lend a hand it would be greatly appreciated.

Modular KDE?
by Chris Smart
Hi all,
Apologies if this has already been discussed on the list (I did search
2010 archives), I'm curious about people's thoughts on a modular
version KDE for Fedora?
That is, where one can install a basic KDE and then only the
components they want - packages are broken up into individual
programs, like "kontact" rather "kdepim". Of course, this doesn't stop
us from still using groups/meta-packages to install everything, or a
collection of programs (like @kde-pim perhaps?).
The benefit is the ability to have a more custom, smaller, faster,
snappier desktop. It also makes KDE applications more attractive for
non-KDE desktop users (they don't need to install a dozen programs to
get the one they need).
If you've never used a modular KDE system before, I highly recommend
you give it a shot!
Thoughts?

I'm having the same problems trying to connect to a VPN in Fedora 13,
KDE 4.5.1.
I can add a VPN configuration, but I can't see any way to connect to it.
I see extra (blank) space added to the applet menu, but clicking on it
has no effect.
