f14 x86_64 konqueror 'the process for the file protocol died unexpectedly'
by John Pilkington
Yesterday, after a week away, I updated this system. It had been
up-to-date before I went away. New kernel, and I thought some kde stuff.
Since then several attempts to refresh konq file-management tabs have
given a blank window, sometimes with this message in the border.
Everything works as usual after a konq restart, until this happens again.
Two of the tabs were showing large folders, 100 GB (ext3) and 500 GB
(ext4), both nearly full with video files. I've since deleted quite a
few to provide more headroom. Anyone else affected? I've never seen it
before.

Preupgrade results in inability to start x
by Claude Jones
I'm not sure where to go with this. I had one machine preupgrade quite
nicely. This one is failing to start X. I can get to a prompt and I've
tried running yum update, which brought in a few new packages, but I
still can't get a desktop. I'm using the nouveau driver and looking
through the Xorg.0.log file doesn't yield much. The last video reference
I can spot in the log says:
AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for VT switch
Nouveau(0): NVLeaveVT is called
Googling on that second line brought up some posts about switching to
the VESA driver, but, I don't have an xorg.conf file, and I can't
generate one because system-config-display is not present on this system...
Can any one suggest something?

KMail issue?
by Martin Kho
Hi,
Didn't I say that I've no issues with KMail? May be I've one. :-)
When I click a mailto link in Konqueror or Kopete the New Message (KMail)
window opens, but the e-mail address is not 'copied' into the To: field.
Clicking a mailto link in Firefox fails with the following message in
.xsession-errors: ** (firefox:1707): WARNING **: Could not launch default
application for URI: Failed to execute child process "kmailservice" (No such
file or directory).
This happens on Fedora 16/17.
Seen this too? Is it a KMail bug?
Thanks,
Martin Kho

Unable to change kde email client
by Roderick Johnstone
Hi
Fedora 16: kde 4.7.3
In system-settings / Default applications I'm setting "Email client" to
/usr/bin/thunderbird after checking the "Use a different email client"
button.
Opening a mailto: link in dolphin or firefox or xdg-open or kde-open
starts kmail2 and gives the following message on the terminal:
QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before
QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
Can anyone else confirm the inability to change the default email client
this way please.
Any ideas how to work around this?
Thanks
Roderick

An even more trivial question on Firefox
by Timothy Murphy
In going over to Fedora-16 I seem to have lost my Live Bookmarks toolbar,
where I used to have sites like the BBC with RSS feeds
under the title bar at the top of the screen.
I can see them if I go to View=>Sidebar=>Bookmarks, so they are there.
Many thanks for any illumination ...

Tiny help please with KMail
by Timothy Murphy
Now I have KMail(2) running under Fedora-16/KDE,
I have one last probably trivial question.
When I list the items in a mail folder,
I just get the Subject and the Date.
I no longer get the From info, as I used to;
and I don't see any mention of this
in Settings=>Configure KMail .
Can some kind soul help me, per favore.

KAddressBook problem
by Anne Wilson
On a fresh F14 + updates system, KAddressBook shows all my sub-
folders under ~/.local/share/contacts/whatever. but none of the vcf
cards in the parent folder, labelled Personal Contacts. There's nothing
obviously wrong with the folder or the entries, but I can't see them.
Any ideas?

Downgrading kmail
by Anne Wilson
I've given up hope of getting KMail2 working with Fedora 15. Do I have
to remove the whole of kdepim? I'd just downgrade KMail if that's possible.

Skype and Google-Talkplugin don't start, may be audio/video config problem
by Mario Storti
Hi all,
I have Fedora 16, and my problem is that I can't run Skype neither
Google-Talk Plugin for videoconferences. Skype simply crashes

And Google-Talk also doesn't start, it offers me to install the plugin
for chat and video, but in fact I have it installed and I think that
it is the latest version.
Name : google-talkplugin
Version : 2.1.6.0
The most amazing thing is that I can run OK both Skype and
Google-Talkplugin UNDER OTHER USER IN THE SAME MACHINE (my user is
`mstorti', and I created another `mstorti2' just to try things). Right
now my workaround is to switch to user `mstorti2' each time I have a
videoconf, but it is getting too annoying!! :-(
Also I can say that I used Skype/Google-Talkplugin without problems
before, I think that something was messed up with some upgrade almost
6 months ago (perhaps when upgrading to Fedora 15 or near).
I think it is a problem of configuration of either the camera of the
audio, but
* I have audio OK, for instance in Amarok or Firefox/Youtube
* I can record audio in Audacity
* I test my camera in System Settings -> Multimedia -> Phonon -> Video
Recording and it seems OK.
The only conflict that I note is that when I start a video on YouTube
I can't hear at the sometime music from Amarok for instance. (It's
probably useless anyway, but I report this because normally I could to
that before all this problem started).
I am sometimes tempted to do a fresh install of Fedora from scratch,
but I'm somewhat lazy because I have a lot of packages locally
installed (I'm using this system since 2007) and I'm skeptic that it
will help.
Any ideas??
TIA, Mario
