nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?

I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also, search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is kde specific. -gene

Kate not installed by default on Fedora 16

Hi.. I just found out that Kate was not installed by default on Fedora 16 even though I had selected 'KDE Software Development' during installation. KDevelop is installed, but not Kate. Was this a concious decision or a mistake? regards, Syam

tracker in KDE

Hallo Yesterday I upgraded from F15 to F16. This went smoothly (almost) but after the restart there were ugly processes running and tacking much of the CPU power: tracker-* AFAIK these processes are the "nepomuk" part of gnome and I don't need them. Why are the tracker processes activated in a typical KDE environment? Martin

Downgrading KDEPIM

Can I add the F15 repos and downgrade KMail? I REALLY don't like KMail 2. It's slower than molasses at the North Pole in January and it's a huge resource hog to boot. I absolutely HATE the new version and if I can't go back to a version that works, I'll have to find a new email client! :(

Fedora KDE Live Media installer still not available in non-english language (F15 version)

I've reported this problem 2 years ago: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=541055 The problem is still present in F15 KDE Spin. ¿Could we please find some kind of solution? Again, I'm willing to help in any way, but I think that this problem must be priorized by the KDE SIG, especially since Anaconda devs have stated that they will not fix the problem (see comment 6). Kevin Kofler suggested to create a kdialog wrapper. Is it possible? I think even I can help with that part of the solution. copying networkmanager connections

I did a fresh install with kde4 - and I want to copy the networkmanager applet connections from another laptop - can someone tell me which files to copy from old to new laptop so it has the same already working wireless and wired networks setup? thanks. I looked in ~/.kde/share/apps/networkmanagement which has: (I don't have a ~/.kde4 directory) /connections - empty directory /secrets - has uuid like file names each with psk=<passwords> but i cannot find the list of connections - even tho I found the passphrases I had the plasmoid set to store as plain text. thanks for any help ... gene

amarok 2.5.0 update error

After today's update to amarok 2.5.0, start amarok gives: Amarok could not find any collection plugins. It is possible that Amarok is installed under the wrong prefix, please fix your installation using: $ cd /path/to/amarok/source-code/ $ su -c "make uninstall" $ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` && su -c "make install" $ kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental $ amarok More information can be found in the README file. Nepomuk File Indexing Service Not Running

Hi, This is a fully updated F16 system running KDE. "Nepomuk File Indexing Service Not Running" is the status that appears when I hover over the Neomuk icon in the SysTray. Additionally, if I bring up the "System Setting" application and choose "Desktop Search" the "System Settings" application will hang. Obviously something got borked. How can I either track down what is borked or what can I safely delete to reinitialize the Nepomuk system? 4.7.95 a couple of bugs...

Hi, I installed 4.7.95, although many bugs seem to be fixed I have found two (so far) that are a nuisance. filelight-4.7.90-1 in f16/kde-unstable

Seems I inadvertantly introduced an epoch with in filelight-4.7.90-1, which was flagged during a reviewing this package for inclusion in fedora. In the meantime, I've filelight passed review and imported into fedora without the epoch as filelight-4.7.90-2. I rebuilt this and put into kde-unstable too. I mention all this because the removal of epoch means for those of you using the f16 kde-unstable repo, upgrading the package away from -1 requires manual intervention. My suggestion would be something like: (make sure you're current): yum update then, yum distro-sync filelight -- rex

Session Restore

Weird, yet minor, problem.... But still want to find a reason/fix. Running a fully updated F16 system and KDE (of course). If I log out of a session most applications are restored on log in. I know there are some exceptions and that isn't the issue. I have 6 desktops and if I log out while in Desktop 2, I would expect to be back at Desktop 2 when I login. But, no matter what, I always find myself back in Desktop 1. I have "Different widgets for each desktop" defined. However, I've not been able to reproduce the failure on a VM. Dang.... When yum finds a broken package

Running an update (F14 - yes, I know about EOL) I found that there is a problem with AdobeReader_enu. I excluded it to get the rest of the updates, then intended to remove it and install the latest version. The removal failed with Error in PREUN scriptlet in rpm package AdobeReader_enu I know this isn't a Fedora issue, really, but can someone tell me what I need to do to get rid of this broken package? Device Notifier and NFS

I have 2 NFS mounted file systems that show up in Device Notifier with the option to open with file manager. This on an F16 system. There were an unusual number of updates today including what appeared to be most, if not all, of the KDE packages. Device Notifier is no longer popping up every few minutes, and I see that all the drives on the network that were appearing are no longer listed. Thanks for that fix. Filtering sent mail in KMail2

Hi folks! :-) After the main KMail2 rants have passed, I guess it is my turn to report a problem... ;-) After composing a new mail, I hit send, and after sending I expect the local copy of my message to be filtered into a relevant folder, as I configured it (before you ask --- yes, I did turn on the option "apply this filter to sent messages" in the filter settings). But it doesn't happen, the message gets put and stays in the default sent-mail folder, instead of where I want it to go. The filter itself is ok, since I can later go to sent-mail, select the message, choose "apply all filters" from the menu (or press ctrl-j), and then the filter works as expected, moving the message into the appropriate folder. So it does work on manual filtering, but not automatically after the message has been sent. So as a workaround, after I finish writing all e-mails, I usually go to sent- mail, select everything, apply all filters, and be done with it. But it is slowly starting to get on my nerves, since this is really something that should be done automatically (and was automatic in KMail1...). Is anyone else seeing this? I'd appreciate any advice/hints/info. Btw, using up-to-date F16/KDE, and so far KMail2 works well for me, no other problems. Best, :-) Marko

Weird ConsoleKit message

I just rebooted and upon logging in, after typing my password, a message appeared, approximately this one: Warning! Could not open ConsoleKit session. Could not open session. I don't recall, but I think there was only one button, that said OK. I pressed it and the login occurred, but I couldn't get messages with knode, only a couple of systray icons appeared, and when I tried to log out, no logout choices appeared and the system appeared to hang, then after quite some time, it logged out by itself. I logged back in and now everything seems fine. I am using updates-testing and kde-unstable, all up-to-date. Is this a bug?

kmail2 question on Fedora 15

Hi I have finally gotten kmail2 to run on my Fedora 15 machine. I ended up using an entirely different mail directory. I was able to import the mail from the old directories into new versions. But I do have one annoying problem. My mail is delivered directly to the machine, and spooled to /var/mail/user-id. kmail was configured to go check the spool periodically, move the mail into my inbox, and delete the mail from the spool. I haven't found a way to get kmail2 to do this. Currently I have added the spool as another mailbox, and when mail shows up, I manually move it, and then manually run a script to delete it from the spool. kde focus stealing

I'm running kde (4.7.3 on F16 currently). I have 6 desktops in 2 rows of 3I have different applications configured to start on different desktops, so the web browser will be on one, office apps on another, mail client on another, with other applications (e.g konsole) able to start anywhere. I don't want the desktop to switch when an application is mapped, but I do want newly mapped applications to appear at the top layer, at least for the current desktop and ideally for all. is this possible? and if so how? With older versions of kde (on F14 for example), I could make the desktop not switch by setting focus stealing prevention to either high or extreme, but this would often result in new windows appearing in layers below the current one. And of course it's possible that the combination of settings i have is making things worse. I'd have thought this was a reasonably common way of working, so I'm sure there must be a way. Any help will be appreciated. Regards, Chris
