KDE & Desktop Effect with Nvidia GeForce 8600GT
by Armelius Cameron
Hello,
One of our machines has the following card (as reported by lspci):
VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600GT] (rev a1)
I have F14 x86-64 on the machine, fully updated. I use the shipped nouveau
driver. I tried to enable desktop effect but a pop-up box says that it cannot
enable desktop effect after I hit "Apply". I tried both OpenGL and XRender for
compositing option.
Is this a known problem ? Is there a website that lists what nvidia cards can
use the full 3D of nouveau and desktop effect (esp. with KDE) ?
I have another machine that uses nvidia GeForce GTX 260 that works just fine
with F14 and desktop effect (using XRender). Do those cards use different
driver?
I hope I am asking the right list here. Thank you.

ignores file for unison?
by Bill McGonigle
Hi, all,
Is anybody using unison to sync home directories under KDE environments?
I'm hoping to find a list of files (in .kde, .config, .local/share,
etc.) to exclude from unison. These would be the ones that need to be
generated on the local computer and should not be used in a shared
(disparate hardware) environment. NFS clusters would probably have the
same need.
unison has an 'include' directive, so if somebody had a list it could be
easily shared, maybe even packaged.

KDE on a tablet ? (Dell Inspiron Duo)
by linux guy
I received a Dell Inspiron Duo this week.
http://www.dell.com/us/business/p/inspiron-duo/pd
Its a netbook that converts into a tablet. I love it even though its
running Windows 7. Its a highly under appreciated device.
I'd like to run Fedora on it, KDE of course.
I'm wondering what, if any, support KDE has for touch operation,
including a pop up virtual keyboard, scrolling, etc.
Thanks.

by Rex Dieter
Plopped kde-4.6.2 into kde-testing for f14, f15 a little bit ago.
Holler if anything breaks (particularly dependencies on f14).
enjoy.

Theme customization causes "dark" theme always
by Gene Smith
On the system settings, desktop theme page you can select the overall
theme OK. However, if you try to customize a themes using the "details"
tab it doesn't seem to work right. For example, if your overall theme is
"Laughlin" but you want widgets to be something else, like "Aya" and you
choose that, *all* desktop items, the panel, widgets, kicker etc, all
assume a blackish theme. If you log off and back on it doesn't help.
Also, if you just set widgets back to the original Laughlin setting, it
has no effect. You have to return to the theme tab, select another theme
and then select Laughlin again to clear the "dark" theme.
I do have a few dark themes installed such as "slim glow" and "oxygen"
but they aren't selected.
A quick search of the bugs.kde.org found no mention of this specific
problem.
Note: Even if a non-existent item like "Analog Clock" (that I don't
have) is selected for customization, it causes all items to be
customized to the dark theme.
Oh yes, this is kde 4.6.1 and f14/x86_64 I am using. Never tried this
with earlier versions. Also, see this on more than one system (both use
the default radeon/mesa driver, which might be relevant).
Finally, this problem sounds somewhat similar to this posting to this
list earlier this year:

KPackageKit insistence
by John Pilkington
Running F13, 64 bit. I upgraded preupgrade this morning, and since then
a KpackageKit window has appeared every few minutes urging me to upgrade
to F14. Yes, but not yet.
I've unchecked the 'Notify me...' in KpackageKit settings, and also
rebooted, but it keeps nagging. It didn't require me to be root. How
can I stop it?
I see this has also been reported in FedoraForums.
Ought I to ask F13 questions somewhere else?
TIA

Another try with smaller attachment and GIF instead PNG...
BTW: krename was rebuilt today on koji and solves dependencie-problems

With KDE 4.6.2 from koji the crontrol-bar is placed in the middle
of the screen, see attached screenshot, even after correct the position
this happens after a new login again, must be one of the following
packages after remove of krename because of broken exiv2-dependencies
another thing since some 4.6 releases is renaming files in
the folder-view: every time there will be a question about
overwrite the new file followed by an erro after confirm
but the reanme works - so there must be some internal
call happen twice

Why is nepomuk so talkative?
by Timothy Murphy
I'm getting dozens of messages on my Fedora-14/KDE konsole screen:
void Nepomuk::Query::QueryServiceClient::close()
What does this mean?
And what does Nepomuk want me to do about it?
