nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

Bluetooth under KDE?
by Timothy Murphy
Is it possible to install and setup Bluetooth under Fedora-15/KDE?
I gather kbluetooth (or kdebluetooth) no longer exists,
and bluez seems to be departing in favour of bluedevil,
which unfortunately appears to be completely undocumented.
Assuming KDE and Bluetooth are compatible,
is there a howto or tutorial explaining how
a Fedora laptop can communicate with a mobile phone through bluetooth?

Nepomuk and virtuoso are hogging memory in 4.6.95
by Andreas Petzold
Hi,
I've updated to 4.6.95 from kde-unstable today and nepomuk and virtouso are
suddenly taking a lot of memory and CPU on my system (i5-2520M, 4GB RAM).
Nepomuk now takes more memory than my firefox with >40 tabs, plus it takes one
full core for whatever it's doing. Virtuoso was taking almost 1.2GB of RAM (RSS)
before I killed it.
That's happening on a fresh system with ~10GB of used space in the home dir
(strigi was never enabled). What is going to happen, once I copy all my music
over? Maybe it's indexing my mail from kontact? How can I find out?
Has anyone seen similar behavior?

ktnef - don't read if allergic to MS
by Timothy Murphy
1) Is ktnef available as an RPM in any Fedora repository?
(It's an application to read the annoying winmail.dat attachments
which seem to be coming in more MS Outlook emails.)
2) I thought KMail used to have an option to read HTML mail?
I don't see it now.
When I get HTML mail I'm asked (usually twice) to Click Here
to read it.
This is fine; I just wondered if there had been a change?
3) Is there any Linux/KDE equivalent to the vcard signatures
I used to get with some Outlook email?
I thought they were rather nice.
As far as I can see, Outlook now wraps them in a winmail.dat file
which makes them doubly unreadable.

Slightly OT? PulseAudio with Intel+Realtek ALC272X doesn't recognise the microphone
by Anne Wilson
Whilst at Desktop Summit I want to do some work with a colleague who can't be
present, and we considered using Google Hangout. Up to this point I hadn't
tried using either the webcam or built-in microphone on the netbook (Acer
Aspire One 533). The webcam is fine, but I can't get it to recognise the
built-in microphone.
My next step with audio problems is always to open the command-line alsamixer.
There I found that the capture device settings were muted. Setting those
correctly hasn't made the microphone work.
Then I turned to pavucontrol - which tells me I have no microphone - not what
the netbook manual says. I tried an external microphone too, which seemed to
go unnoticed.
Has anyone any ideas? I found lots of threads about Ubuntu users having
problems, but of course the commands and packages recommended for them are
less helpful in Fedora.

Issues with kde 4.6.95 (keyboard layout and kopete icon)
by Michal Hlavinka
Hi,
I've installed kde 4.6.95 on two machines and on one of them, keyboard
layout switching no longer works (nothing in systray, shortcut does not
do anything). On second machine, this works fine. I've tried to delete
~/.kde/share/conf/kxkbrc and configure it again, but no change. There
are no errors in ~/.xsession-erros, so I don't know what's wrong.
Second issue is kopete no longer animates systray icon when new message
arrives. This is broken on both computers. I've tried to uncheck it and
check it again in configuration, but without any change. Again, no
errors in xsessions-errors.
Any ideas how to debug this?

Need to logout on Update
by Jim Dean
A recent discussion on Fedora forums raised the need to logout and back
after a KDE version update. I've noticed that the system becomes unstable,
last time I got a plasma crash, and others reported similar things. Is this
common or just a few people?
It was suggested that a bug should be raised for it.

bad interaction with virtualbox
by Neal Becker
Recently, virtualbox is not playing nice. When I login, settings/multimedia
shows phonon using 'default' which works fine.
When virtualbox is started, it reports it 'can't open audio device' or something
like that. I then see settings/multimedia lists a bunch more devices. These
include:
hda intel (alc268 audio)
hw:0,0
hw:1,0
hw:0,6
in addition to 'default', which is now grayed out.
And, now knotify4 is using 100% cpu.
