nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?

I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also, search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is kde specific. -gene

Fedora KDE Live Media installer still not available in non-english language (F15 version)

I've reported this problem 2 years ago: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=541055 The problem is still present in F15 KDE Spin. ¿Could we please find some kind of solution? Again, I'm willing to help in any way, but I think that this problem must be priorized by the KDE SIG, especially since Anaconda devs have stated that they will not fix the problem (see comment 6). Kevin Kofler suggested to create a kdialog wrapper. Is it possible? I think even I can help with that part of the solution. Alt+F3 window menu

Good day all, Just wondering if this is just me or if anyone else experiences this, when I click on the far left button or right click on a window title bar, the menu which comes up, comes up in the top left corner of the screen. No matter were the window is on the desktop it always appears at the top of the screen, yet when I press Alt+F3 on the keyboard is shows in the right place. I thought this might have gone away in 4.7 but its still there. anyone else see this? Thanks Martin

Problem with Panels

Hi All Its been along time. I have a weird problem. Just out of curiosity, I finally logged into gnome in Fedora 15 ( nice smart phone lol ). After logging back into kde, the panel on the top of my screen was not at the top, but a bit lower than that. I dragged it back up to the top and then logged off and back on. kde and rename-dialog

can we please have back the popup-window for file-rename for a bundle of reasons * large screen -> but you do not see the entire filename inline * in the past you moved the popup away and saw the old name now you see only a small part of the filename, see never the whole name and can not compare to the old one, this deagrades usability another time for the reason it is beautiful at the first look this was one of the many things because i loved KDE compared to windows and what happens now - doing all the same :-(

Hi Eli, I see the same thing. Not sure when it started though. I've not logged into Gnome, so I don't think that has anything to do with it. Seems it started a few weeks back for me (I'm using the kde-stable repo). I use an nVidia card with Twinview. If I resize my desktop to span from my laptop to an external monitor, the panel fixes itself (if I don't manually move it prior to this). Relevant softwares: kdebase-runtime-4.6.5-1.fc15.x86_64 kmod-nvidia-2.6.40-4.fc15.x86_64-280.13-2.fc15.x86_64 Not sure which component is to blame. -- Brandon Boles bb(a)zbeba.com

strange keyboard behavior on screensave

Running KDE47. When I leave the computer for a sufficient time to let the screen saver kick in, a shake of the mouse reveals the basic login dialog with no background. If I attempt to enter my password into the field, no characters appear and the login fails. However, if I do a Ctl-Alt-Bspace, X is restarted and the full background pic is displayed along with the log in dialog, and it will accept keyboard entry... feedback on default plasma-desktop layout

The kde-sig is seeking feedback on f16's plasma-desktop (and potentially other containments) default layout. In particular, prior to kde-4.7.x, the default was basically an empty desktop with a sole folderview widget. Now in kde47, the default is even emptier, without even folderview. So, we were close to deciding simply putting a folderview back as default, but I thought we could brainstorm for even better ideas. What do you all think? Licensing of kde-settings

Hi, kde-settings currently has: License: Public Domain This made sense when all it contained was configuration settings such as foo=false, which are clearly not a form of creative expression, but these days kde-settings is growing some code snippets, e.g.: * RPM dependency extractors * possibly a Plasma initialization script Those code snippets are probably copyrightable, and it is not legal for us European contributors to just declare them Public Domain. Therefore, I propose that we put kde-settings under the MIT License, in particular this variant: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Licensing:MIT#Modern_Style_with_sublicense which is the default license for Code contributions to Fedora, and which is effectively as permissive as Public Domain, but legally sound worldwide. Latest glibc has broken kdeinit4?

Hi, In Fedora 16 kdeinit4 segfaults after the glibc (2.14.90-6) update. In dmesg I see: "kdeinit4[1021]: segfault at b0 ip 00007f9e60ddf2f1 sp 00007fff95741730 error 4 in libc-2.14.90.so[7f9e60cb8000+1a5000]" Downgrading glibc resolves the issue. Who is to blame? glibc or kdelibs? Thanks, Martin Kho

Server-based contact list

I've been looking for some time for a way (hopefully KDE) of keeping an address-book/contact list on a server, so that it can be accessed, and edited, from a laptop. Presently I'm running OpenLDAP on my server, but this is not entirely satisfactory. I use KMail on my laptop, but the interface with the OpenLDAP server is not very good (to put it mildly). The features I would like are: 1. There should be a simple web interface for accessing and editing the contact list on the server. 2. It should also be possible, and relatively easy, to access and edit the contact list through KMail/KAddressBook. 3. There should be a simple interface to mobile phones to allow contacts to be added to, and copied from, the phone. 4. The information stored with each contact should be as flexible as possible; there might or might not be an email address, and there might or might not be a phone number. Mail popups in KDE 4.7.0

Hi Since I updated to KDE 4.7.0 (except for kdepim, which is 4.4.11), I am being driven crazy with popup notifcations whenever email is delivered (or sent). There are 2 different popups that are generated for each instance, and each time they are displayed, a sound is produced. I would really like to turn the popups off, but if that is not possible, then suppressing the sound alert would be better than nothing. The first popup is: USER: The MBox file was changed by another program. A copy of the new file was made and pending changes are appended to that copy. To prevent this from happening use lockin... where USER is my user id. There looks to be more to this message, but I can't find it. The second message is: USER: The file 'file:///var/spool/mail/USER' was changed on disk while there were still pending changes in Akonadi. To avoid data loss, a backup of the internal changes has been crea... Again I am unable to find the rest of this message. I had to downgrade kdepim because the mail migration failed, and kmail2 would not start. It complained about an invalid mailbox, but I created a new user with no mailbox, and it wouldn't start there either. KDE 4.7 solved some other problems I was having, so I really don't want to have to backup to what I was using before, but these popups are very distracting, and when a couple of hundred Fedora 16 update emails show up, the bottom right corner of my screen is essentially worthless until they have all been delivered. KDE47 - strange behavior in conversion of mail files

No one else is reporting this, but I've had a bizarre experience after updating to KDE4.7 with my KMail email. Where previously the root of my folder tree started with "Local Folders" and all my sub-folders were listed below, what's occurred is that a new root folder "KMail Folders" was created; below this new top-level folder was replicated the entire folder structure of my previous "Local Folders" folder; at the same time, "Local Folders" remained at the same root level as "KMail Folders" with its sub-folder structure intact - so now I have these two top-level folders with identical sub-folder structures below them; now, it gets even stranger - in this dual/parallel folder structure my emails were found with no sense or seeming reason for which emails ended up in which. For example my sub-folder "Fedora-list" had about two thousand messages in each folder, some in the new "KMail Folders" structure, and some in the old "Local Folders" structure... These are not duplicates, they just got randomly sorted, some remaining in the original folder, and some moved into the new. Since I have over 30k messages in my archive, this is not an insignificant deal. Some mail is very, very, old stuff that I definitely don't want to lose. Looking at my filters, I see that all the filters that had previously been set to "Local Folders\some sub-folder\etc" had been converted to "KMail Folders\some sub-folder\etc" - now, I'm in the process of hand-copying everything from the old structure into the new, but, it's very tedious, taking sometimes several minutes to list the messages in a folder, and taking a very long time to perform the actual copy. Before I started doing this, I gave the machine a very long time, over 24 hours, thinking maybe it was just a long involved conversion that was going on, but, that theory didn't hold out, so now I'm doing this by hand... power applet - is this bug fixed in 4.7 ?

After my laptop has been using sleep - then later its on A/C - unplugging and going on battery - the power applet switches to 'powersave' from 'performance'. However - it really has not changed - and the screen is bright. In the applet if I toggle to performance (no visible change) and then back to powersave - then screen dims .. Anyone know if this is fixed in 4.7? thanks. gene/

Undoing a maximize

I am using uptodate KDE on Fedora 15 (x86_64). I skipped Fedora 14, and went directly from Fedora 13 to 15. I am generally quite happy with the changes to KDE in F15, espcially being able to bring up a useable menu with a middle mouse button click on the background. There is one change from F13 that I am not happy about, however. I have defined a key combination to maximize a window. In F13, a second use of this combination would undo the maximize. In F15, a second use only does an undo for a motif window. Simple X windows ( and others ) seem to ignore the second use. Is something not configured correctly? KMail not able to authenticate

After what feels like a long struggle I've got my new CentOS mail server running to the point where I can run KMail on the same box and see all my messages. Unfortunately, when I try to read the messages from my netbook I am told that authentication method LOGIN is not supported by the server. The dovecot configuration file has the line disable_plaintext_auth = no which always allowed login on the old system. Any ideas where I need to look for this? Anne

padevchooser works for you?

I installed padevchooser on F15 (x86_64) kdebase-4.7.0-1.fc15.x86_64. Doesn't seem to work. Opening padevchooser, it doesn't seem to be able to connect to any server (default would be localhost).

F16 Alpha RC4 desktop validation: please help out!

Hey, folks. So, we've just spun the latest F16 Alpha RC, which you can get here: http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/16-Alpha.RC4/Live/ (DVD / boot.iso are a level up). It's desktop validation time! I didn't notify you all of the earlier TCs / RCs as they were all quite obviously broken, but we're hoping RC4 will be the one. There's only two desktop validation tests (per desktop) that are critical to Alpha release, but it's good to get through some of the others too so we can get ahead of ourselves on Beta / Final fixes. So, if you have a bit of spare time, it'd be great if you could grab an image and help fill out the test results page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_16_Alpha_RC4_Desktop that'd be a great help. knotify4 loads 60% CPU

I just noticed today this: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 14364 gene 20 0 1726m 263m 11m R 69.9 2.2 322:25.51 knotify4 (i) its taking up 263 M of mem (1.7 virtual) - really? for what? (ii) its holding the CPU at 65-75% ... anyone else seeing this - known bug? Running on F15 (stock kde - have not yet updated to 4.7). /var/log/messages has nothing of note .. gene
