Fedora 17 Alpha desktop validation needed
by Adam Williamson
Hey, folks. Sorry I didn't manage to send out any of these notifications
up till now, but we have an Alpha RC now which is looking pretty good so
far, and the Go/No-Go meeting is tomorrow, so if you could help do the
desktop validation tests for your desktops that'd be great.
The validation page with info and instructions is here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Results:Fedora_17_Alpha_RC4_Desktop
Downloads are here:
http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/17-Alpha.RC4/
John Dulaney has already done several of the tests (thanks John, if
you're reading!) and we have the necessary minimum coverage for
sign-off, but it's always good to cover all desktops and get the Beta /
Final tests done at Alpha stage so we know what's broken. So if you get
a minute to help out, please do! Thanks.

Can't restart or shut down from Kickoff?
by Martin Kho
Hi,
In Fedora 17 Branched restarting or shutting down from Kickoff is no longer
working. Pressing one of the buttons results in an end session (log out). At
the log in screen it is possible to shutdown or reboot (via Menu-option). May
be this issue is caused by the 'new way of rebooting' in systemd?
Did anyone else have seen this? Are there any workarounds?
Thanks,
Martin Kho

Window management problem in SL6/KDE4.3.4
by John Pilkington
Hi: This laptop was OK but now some windows don't open; they just sit
minimised in the taskbar. I think I've seen advice in the past to just
nuke something in .kde, but the details have faded. Help?
TIA

Status of KDE4.8 ?
by linux guy
Subject says it all. Not meaning to rush or pressure anyone, just
wanting to know.
Thanks
PS. I'm thankful that Fedora continues to embrace KDE, unlike Ubuntu.

Fedora 16 KDE - start problem
by Шунайлов Александр
I have updated my Fedora 16 after install from Live-CD.
After that I have rebooted the system. But when i logged there were no taskbar, only icons on the desktop.
And then tried to open file manager Dolphin, Web-browser, but i couldn't see these windows.
When I pressed Alt+Tab i saw window's headers, but not windows.
What I must do to make my Fedora 16 work good?
Please, help.

"Fetch Job Error - Plasma Desktop Shell" ??
by Timothy Murphy
I'm still getting this warning:
"Fetch Job Error - Plasma Desktop Shell
Unknown error. Unable to fetch item from backend"
several times a day.
(It comes up in a small window, and disappears after 10 seconds or so.)
I've googled for it, and it seems a relatively common disease,
but I haven't seen any cure suggested.
Strangely, it only comes up on one Fedora-16/KDE laptop out of three.
I don't see any effect of the "error", except for this message,
unless it is responsible for the fact that the laptop goes "sticky"
from time to time, and does not let me go to another virtual desktop.
This again only lasts for 20 seconds or so.
Has anyone encountered this, and found a solution?

no bluetooth adaptors found
by Neal Becker
Devices - KDE Control Module says
no bluetooth adaptors found
I saw this last night. Then rebooted, and bluetooth was OK.
Today it's back to no adaptors.
I suspect (without having tried the experiment), that sleep/awaken is causing
this. Anyone else see this?

KMail2
by Timothy Murphy
Is anybody using KMail2, or has everyone given up on it?
I've asked several questions about it,
eg I cannot create top-level folders,
there are curious sub-folders created when migrating from KMail,
the Tools=>Find Messages facility does not seem to work.
I just wondered if the reason I haven't had any responses
is that everyone has gone back to the previous version of KMail?
