nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

KMail/IMAP cannot add top-level folder
by Timothy Murphy
When I click on a top-level account in KMail on an IMAP client,
the File->New->Add Folder option is greyed out,
although it is available to create a sub-folder of an existing folder.
I know I can create a new folder by creating a subdirectory .<whatever>
in ~/Maildir on the IMAP server; but is this really the only way?
Also: is there any way of re-ordering the folders in KMail ?
I created a new folder in the above fashion,
but it is listed out of alphabetical order.

Coordinating https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/InitialExperience with firsboot, anaconda
by Miloslav Trmač
Hello,
it seems that not all relevant parties have been talking to each
other; if anyone else should be involved, please add them.
In short, a new Fedora feature
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/InitialExperience was
proposed, replacing firstboot for the GNOME spin (only) and
integrating per-system and per-user configuration.
The original suggestion was for non-GNOME spins (including the DVD
installation) would continue using firsboot.
Now it turns out that anaconda plans to do more setup during the
initial installation (including setting up the clock and adding an
initial user), perhaps making all of firstboot unnecessary on non-live
installations. OTOH for live-{CD,DVD} installations, the same
clock/user screens would be displayed in firstboot, sharing the code;
if "initial experience" plans to support firstboot screens, this (and
the presumed firstboot module API changes) would affect it.
Can you all talk to each other and figure out a definite plan, please?
The integrated nature of IE goes against the "one installed system
with multiple installed desktop environments" concept, which is sort
of acceptable as long as both IE and firsboot have active maintainers,
but asking the user about the same things both in anaconda and IE
wouldn't do.
* Which settings/screens happen in anaconda?
* Which settings/screens move between anaconda and firsboot/IE (and
using what mechanism)?
* Which settings/screens happen both in firstboot and IE (and on which
installation paths)? What code will be shared?
* Which settings will be governed by each desktop environment
individually? How does the transition between per-system and per-user
settings happen if IE doesn't want the user to log in during the
process?
* Which parts of the GNOME stack will have to be installed on
non-GNOME spins, or from the installation DVD when installing a
non-GNOME desktop only?
(and other things that I might have forgotten)
Thank you,
Mirek

Cannot lock screen
by Emmett Culley
For the last few Fedora releases I have not been able to lock my screen except using the command line. The command line that I use is:
/usr/libexec/kde4/kscreenlocker --forcelock --daemon
I can also get the screen to lock on timeout by causing the above script to run via the power management systems settings dialog. Without adding the script definition the screen only goes dark. Checking the "Lock screen on resume" has no effect.
Selecting Lock from the menu or clicking on the lock widget has no effect. When I first installed Fedora 17 those methods did not work until after the first full update, then stopped on a subsequent full update.
I even installed Fedora 17 fresh, instead of updating as I did for two previous releases, so as to start with a fresh ~/.kde directory.
How can I troubleshoot this? Where do I find how the Lock menu item is programmed and how do I find out what the lock widget is supposed to do.

Can someone help me with a new device action?
by NRL
Hi,
I'm sorry about "thread hijacking" the other thread, I never heard of
this but I will not do it any more.
I'm not sure if this is also "top posting" or not but if it is I do
apologize for it.
I'm also sorry this email is so long.

I did some searching on the internet and found that my CD/DVD drive is
not included in the /etc/fstab file. I tried adding it and my computer
did not like the change I made. I'm glad I have Parted Magic.
This is what my fstab says:
#
# /etc/fstab
# Created by anaconda on Wed May 30 10:26:51 2012
#
# Accessible filesystems, by reference, are maintained under '/dev/disk'
# See man pages fstab(5), findfs(8), mount(8) and/or blkid(8) for more info
#
/dev/vg_nrlacasse/lv_root / ext4 defaults 1 1

UUID=331fd93b-f67c-412c-bc73-b877077269f7 swap swap defaults 0 0
I tried adding: /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom auto defaults 0 0
If this is why I cannot see the CD/DVD's in my media directory can
someone tell me the correct information to add? Is the DVD drive part of
the vg_nrlacasse logical volume group?
Should it be: /dev/vg_nrlacasse/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom auto defaults 0 0
I also did this wodim --devices to see what it said.
This is what I got.
[NRL@NRLacasse ~]$ wodim –devices
wodim: Overview of accessible drives (1 found) :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
0 dev='/dev/sg3' rwrw-- : 'ASUS' 'DRW-24B1ST a'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
[NRL@NRLacasse ~]$
The CD/DVD Drive is at: /dev/sr0
Thanks, Norman

Minimal KDE Install
by Cae Sium
Have been using Debian with a minimal (install) set of KDE apps,
- Dolphin, Ark, Konsole, Kaffeine, Gwenview
- Reference (plasma-desktop) : http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde44.html
Installed Fedora KDE Spin and found that many apps are installed by default.
Wondering if there is a way to install a minimal set of KDE apps instead..
