akonadi-mysql subpkg
by Rex Dieter
Here's an initial attempt at creating a akonadi-mysql subpkg.
It's purpose includes:
* provide a way for users/admin's to more-easily control which akonadi
backend gets used by default. when akonadi-mysql is present => mysql,
if not => sqlite
* allows mysql (and friends) to drop out of fedora's critical path
(which the mysql maintainer isn't fond of)
Once built, we can add akonadi-mysql to comps to get installed by
default (1)
I've tested upgrading from pristine akonadi setup/config as well as one
with an existing customized /etc/xdg/akonadi/akonadiserverrc file.
Any comments, thoughts, feedback?

(1) though I'd personally not want this, my fellow kde-sig'ers disagreed
with me last time the topic was debated.

Announcing Dogtail 0.8.0 - both GNOME3 and KDE4 compatible
by Vitezslav Humpa
Hi All!
After having dealt with a number of issues in these last few months, we
believe that the updated Dogtail, GUI test tool and automation
framework, has now reached a state when we can release it. So finally -
now more than two years after the last stable version - Dogtail 0.8.0
is out! It's already syncing into Fedora repositories, but you can also
get it here [1].
So what is new? Some of you might have noticed, that Dogtail was no
good since the release of Fedora 15. Thus most significantly, Dogtail
was ported to be compatible with new GNOME 3 technologies and now works
well again in major distributions centered around GNOME 3.
And as a new, thanks to qt-at-spi, Dogtail now supports QT too and it can
be used to test and automate KDE/QT applications as well! With QT
accessibility enabled you will see the complete UI trees of QT
applications as you were used to with GTK+ apps. KDE sessions are now
supported both for working and script running environment out of the
box with KDE 4.8.x and QT 4.8.2 onward.
There were many more changes in Dogtail 0.8.0, you can find release
highlights in the release notes [2].
We are making the 0.8.x series of releases the GNOME 3 / KDE 4
compatible branch, but for all of you who are using GNOME 2 / GTK+ 2
based systems we are continuing the 0.7.x branch, having released a
bug-fixing update recently too [1].
We hope that all of you interested in GUI testing and automation will
be interested in using dogtail again for GTK+ and try it up for QT apps
too! Please don't hesitate to ask on IRC or write to the dogtail-list [3]
if you have any questions.
Thanks!
Vita

Retiring akonadi-googledata
by Mario Santagiuliana
Hi to all,
I am going to retire akonadi-googledata. An old akonadi resource for Google
contacts and calendars. Like explain in this bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=833041
I suggest to all users who are using akonadi-googledata to switch to new
resources akonadi-google (that new version will be included in kdepim-
runtime).
Thank a lot to Rex Dieter for his work!

kdm long login delay - 4.9-beta2/F17
by Colin J Thomson
Hi,
After some updates yesterday I was prompted to logout and log back in which I
did. I entered my user/password and hit return which would normally start the
kde splash screen right away and begin the login process.
However it took almost 1 min after I entered my password and hit return before
the login process started.
I am not sure how to debug this yet and will have a look on kde.bugs etc.
Does anyone else see this ?

KNode on different laptops/phones
by Timothy Murphy
I look at KNode on different laptops
and occasionally on an Android phone,
and I was wondering if there is any way
to keep a note of articles one has read,
to pass on from one machine to the other?
Currently, I copy .kde/share/apps/knode/ to my server
when I logout, and then copy it back when I login.
This is better than nothing, but isn't completely successful.
I'm not clear if articles do have a unique identifier
independent of the server they are downloaded from?

plasma desktop eats CPU in F16
by Zebee Johnstone
I am running Fedora 16 which was created from an F15 install via preupgrade.
Note though that the homedir is in a separate filesystem and hasn't
been re-created for some time, so there might be cruft in it.
The desktop is very slow in refreshes. If I change virtual desk pages
then the previous page still shows for some time and the system
monitor widget shows CPU is high.
Top confirms the CPU hog is plasma_desktop, and strace shows
stat("/etc/localtime", {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2183, ...}) = 0
I saw a note via google to remove
$HOME/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop* and doing that did solve the
problem but the problem is back.
Deleting those means configuring my desktop again, I'd rather avoid
that if I can!
