Rather OT - what is this icon?
by Timothy Murphy
What is the syringe-like icon which appears on all plasma pages
in the "title bar" at the top of the page, second place on the left?
And what exactly is its function?
When I left click on it, it turns into a small white disk
with a dot in the centre.
If I click on it again, it turns back to the syringe icon.
When I right click on it, nothing happens.
More generally, is there a page online somewhere
that outlines the anatomy of a plasma page?
When I hover over any icon in the panel I am told what it is;
and if I right-click on it I'm told more about it.
But when I hover over, or right click on, icons in the title bar
I get no response.
That seems unfortunate to me.

black screen showing mouse pointer only.
by Germano Massullo
In past ~3 days some plasma related updates have broken something: on
many machines with different FOSS VGA drivers I got a black screen
showing mouse pointer only. Usually after SDDM login, but sometimes even
while kscreenlock is active. The only way to escape from the situation
is to reboot the system.
Has anybody experienced a similar problem?

KMail
by Timothy Murphy
There used to be an option in KMail to download offline,
which I take to mean while KMail is not running,
but I don't see this now.
I'm running KMail under Fedora-23beta/KDE .
Also, I'm not really clear what KMail downloads
from an IMAP server to a laptop?
Is it just the headers, until the email is clicked to read?
Or does it download all the recent email when KMail starts
(or even earlier, if offline downloading is allowed)?

kdialog - Session bus not found
by Brad Hubbard
Is this expected?
It's new in f22 AFAICT.
$ kdialog --title "Test" --passivepopup "Test" 2
kdialog(10183)/kdeui (kdelibs): Session bus not found
To circumvent this problem try the following command (with Linux and bash)
export $(dbus-launch)
KCrash: Application 'kdialog' crashing...
I understand that the following works just fine but I'm just wondering if anyone
knows if this is the way it's meant to be now and what the reasoning is?
$ export $(dbus-launch) && kdialog --title "Test" --passivepopup "Test" 2
Thanks,
Brad

A near freeze of plasma
by Ed Greshko
I've been seeing this problem several times a day. I can't reproduce it in any reliable way and I have no idea how I can go about collecting the needed info... Anyway, here is what happens.
My most recent experience with "freeze" is not a solid one. The screen is frozen but I can still move the mouse around. Also, if there is a video playing it will freeze but the audio will continue on. I can get out of it by logging in from a terminal and doing a "killall -u myusername" which gets me back to the login screen.
I think "kwin" is the most likely suspect and have upgraded to kwin-5.4.0-4 from updates testing as the changelog included this nugget which gave me hope....
* Tue Aug 25 2015 Daniel Vrátil <dvratil(a)redhat.com> - 5.4.0-2
- add upstream patch to fix crash
- make sure kwayland-integration is installed for kwin-wayland
But no... Still have issues. Any suggestion on what to look for to see if the culprit can be identified?

Kate Printing Issues
by Emilio Recio
So, I have a monospaced font in kate for editing programs, and text
files. However, whenever I print preview or print, it shows up in a
proportional font. I think it may be related to KF5 ... sigh ... again.

Anyone else having these issues printing with Kate?

Fedora 21 update
by Jan Simonson
Hello,
Presently the update of Fedora 21 results in:
--> Avslutade beroendeupplösning
Fel: Paket: abrt-2.3.0-11.fc21.x86_64 (updates)
Behöver: libreport >= 2.3.0-9
Installerade: libreport-2.3.0-8.fc21.x86_64 (installed)
libreport = 2.3.0-8.fc21
Tillgängliga: libreport-2.3.0-4.fc21.i686 (fedora)
libreport = 2.3.0-4.fc21
and some other libreport* missing in version 2.3.0-9.
libreport* = 2.3.0-9 is in testing since august. Is there any reason for this?
As it is now update via apper breaks and --skip-broken is needed in a shell.

KDE / Plasma Irregularities
by Armelius Cameron
Hi,
I keep having issues with KDE/Plasma and I am not sure what to do
about this, or if this is known issue with my setup.
Typically I connect my laptop (Dell Latitude E6450, AMD Radeon HD
8790M) with two external monitors to have 3 display total. On each
display then I can set up different wallpapers. I keep the laptop
monitor as the "Primary Display".
This is where weirdness starts. For example, upon logout and relogin,
my wallpapers on the different displays sometime are randomly swapped.
Sometime they're back to the right place after another logout-relogin,
but not always.
I often cannot create panel ("Default" or "Empty") on the desktop on
external monitors. If I right click and add widget, widget usually
show up in the correct desktop. But not panel. They either don't show
up at all, and then show up in some random place/desktop after
re-login, or all just pile on one desktop (e.g. the laptop monitor).
Moving panel across desktops doesn't work most of the time, but if I
get really lucky (maybe 1 out of 10 tries), I can move Panel across
desktop.
I've retried these things multiple time and re-started with new user
to make sure it's a fresh / new config. At one time I got lucky that I
had it set up the way I want it: 1 panel on each desktop on the laptop
monitor and the external monitors. It worked for several days. Then at
one point I log out and re-login and everything goes crazy with Panels
piling up on just one desktop. I have never been able to fix it after
that.
Another issue is that removing and re-attaching external monitors
would often mess up Panel placements, even if it's just supposed to be
a single Panel and the primary monitor remains the same (e.g. the
laptop monitor). So everytime I remove and attached monitors, all bets
are off with regards to Panel placement. Very annoying.
I am starting to give up on this, as it's driving me nuts. Is there
alternative or workaround ? Would going back to F21 be any better (the
last Fedora I used is F12, and things work generally find with KDE
desktop there)
Thanks for any input.

Audio Widget Won't
by Peter G.
Until the recent upgrade of KDE about 3 or so days
ago, my x86_64 desktop computer had troubles with the
audio widget: sometimes it showed in the system tray,
sometimes it didn't. I had to disable and re-enable it
in the tray settings for it to work (sound seemed to
work, at least system sound did, but I had no control
over the volume).
Well, now, since the upgrade, everything's been fine
on the desktop and the problem has shifted to the i686
laptop, which, previously, had not displayed the
problem. I have logged out and back in, rebooted,
etc., but it persists.

Which monospaced font are you using (if not the default)?
